As per title really.
Inside the fridge part of my fridge freezer there is a wire that runs from the box that contains the light and temperature dial and goes into the rear wall of the fridge section.
Anyone know what this wire is for? Because I've just dislodged the bloody thing whilst defrosting the ice at the back. I'm hoping it just powers the bulb and nothing else.

That will be the thermostat!

Belongs you have not bent / snapped in half you should be fine.

I replaced the thermostat on our chest freezer the other year. Called up the manufacturer and bought a new one for like £7 and fitted it myself.

Snapped out at the back I'm afraid.

Ah!

You will need a new thermostat! the tube goes to a phile / bulb which contains a gas which expands and contracts with the temperature in the Fridge to switch on or off the compressor.

You can buy these from a spares shop.

if it is an upright fridge freezer, pull out the crisper drawer (salad one at the bottom) there should be a serial number there on the right hand side,

take that and head over to espares.co.uk and find the part and fit it.

simples

This, we had ours replaced (insurance on white goods) this Monday as it had burnt out
