My Mums iPhone 3GS has finally give in and now I'm looking for a new phone for her.

Budget of around £100. Just for the basics really, calling, texts, Facebook etc.

Any suggestions?

Nokia Lumia 520 / 620.

The 520 is pretty damn good for the money. Can be had from some places even cheaper depending on offers

e: related, I got one for my mother, she can't work an electric toaster and is getting on well with WP8

Don't choose a laggy, slow frustrating cheapo android phone over a quality value phone like the 520.

Windows phone is slick and fast even at less than £100, not to mention the free offline sat nav and maps for the entire world and free music through Nokia music.

Nothing else comes close with value at that price point.

Another vote for the 520, amazing phone for the money, unless you really don't like Windows Phone.

I don't even think the 520 can be bought new anymore...

I saw one today in a supermarket for £110 and I wasn't even looking for one.

Argos have them £90-£100 depending on network although will be +£10 credit

IIRC world maps doesn't come with the 520, only UK but still good enough for most :)

Its sim dependant, so UK network, you get access to download and use the UK maps.

Go to France, insert a French network sim, you get access to the maps in France etc, I think thats how it works.

I "think" its dependant upon the 1st sim you put in e.g uk sim and its then locked to uk maps (although a hard reset probably fixes this)
Thats if I remember correctly anyway.

CPW Pay and Go phones aren't sim locked, but you need to buy £10 credit. They are often sub £100 all in - in store (often wander in to have a browse)

CPW do a pay and go upgrade if you already have an old phone+sim for £80

O2 refurb at £80 for the red one, still has 12 month warranty (if you have any faith in network warranties...), probably locked to O2

e: I did the payg upgrade at CPW when it was £60

+1 for the lumia 520/620
great OS that runs well on the lower spec hardware very easy to use once you get use to the quirks
