So,

I'm due to move, and have a 42" pani plasma. My car is tiny and would need to be laid flat if I was to transport it. Would it crack? It would have other stuff underneath it, and of course wrapped in everything I can find (bubble wrap).

O yeah and the journey isn't short either!

Work can transport it down for me, but I don't have much faith that it wouldn't just get laid flat anyway and be in just as much trouble.

I thought the more modern ones were okay to transport flat.

Although my GT50 box (kept for just this eventuality!) has cartoons all over it saying keep it upright.

Me and Skully manage to get a 42" Panasonic PZ70 in the backseat standing up in his Skoda Fabia. Packed all the gaps with duvet, pillows and anything soft we could get our hands on. It survived the 90 min journey through Motorways and A roads.

The reason of transporting it standing up is the stress on a large piece of glass if you hit a bump. When it is standing up, structurally the glass is a lot stronger and can take an impact on its side more. When it is flat, it is much weaker.

Will try to fit in standing upright, done a bit of googling and found everyone saying not to do it.

But never found any 1st hand experience of it going wrong...

I would certainly go for transporting the panel upright.
Glass is unbelievably weak when flat, even a bump or pothole could be enough to put undue stress on it and ........crack!
Its just not worth the risk.

Doesnt take much to break one, make sure the PED is removed and keep it upright, across the footwell in the back will probably do, just make sure its got plenty of stuff padding out the dips so it doesnt rest on the center.

When I moved I took my 42" LG on a small pallet. Laid out some cardboard over the slats, then a layer of big bubble and roped the screen face down tight and another layer of big bubble. Was chucked in the back of a van at an odd angle with stuff piled all around. Survived without a scratch

When I bought my Panasonic 42" plasma, I put it on the back seats of my Renault Clio I had at the time. It was upright and fit in lovely.

Yep, I have had a look and think if I stuff the floor wells I can fit it in behind the front seats.

Hopefully I can fit the rest of my possessions in there too if not TV>clothes :p

Hire a small van for the move?If you have other stuff to move to new home it will be a lot easier to get it all in a van :)

I moved my 50" plasma flat in the box from the store I bought it new. I only had to do about 5 miles and I was driving carefully to avoid bumps, holes etc.. no problems and it is still working 4 years on
