On Benefits & Proud

I would lay part of the blame at the feet of employers these days as well.

The amount of hoops and red tape you have to go through for a basic low wage job is laughable.

Just look at tescos ? you have to pratically go on the krypton factor to stack shelves or unload lorries it's just cringe worthy.

Employers expect too much these days almost getting to the point they expect a professional C.V and university education to be a car washer.

We need to bring back the days of just turning up and someone making a decision based upon that persons eagerness attitude and common sense not mass filtering out because the C.V wasn't in a format you like or they didn't have a masters degree to do a manual job

I applied for a warehouse job recently I have 10 years experience for national companies the job was within walking distance under a mile from where I live.

Didn't even get a reply and I know why, it's because my c.v or covering letter which was a bog standard template didn't fit in with their TOO HIGH expectations.

It is an Employer's market.

I've seen horrendous acts of salary cuts and minimum qualification increases.

A job in my place requiring 5 GCSEs A-C for £15k, increased to wanting a 1st or a 2:1 degree. People still applied.

Also cutting the higher end job salaries and forcing people to re-apply or be jobless is a very common event, sadly.

Can you be specific about what you mean by income from the Queen? I hope you don't mean general tourism.

Also dishonest is referring to benefits and generalising that benefit claimants are these 20 kid families the Daily Mail seems to be adept at finding. Let's not forget that the biggest cost in the government's welfare bill is pensions.

I am talking about the income from the crown estate. Now I know some people would like to just steal it and claim it for the state, but that isn't the reality.

And yes, the biggest issue in the benefit system is pensions, but that doesn't justify or excuse the policy of trapping working age people into dependency.

Welcome to the impact of the minimum wage, you can no longer reduce the cost of your labour to match its value, and you have to compete on merit at the bottom of the job market.

Come on ! something is very wrong in our employment market when you have to go to multiple recruitment events interviews and tests to unload a lorry or stack a shelf.

The latest kick in the teeth, particularly to young people, are stupid apprenticeships. Apprenticeship shop assistant anyone? Since when does working in a shop require extensive training? It's just an excuse for employers to offer younger people even lower wages.

Most of the people that moan about the unemployed are receiving in work benefit which is more than £71 a week.

In work benefits can be just as trapping given the random withdrawal rates and eligibility criteria.

The whole system needs fundamental reform.

Really? 5 GCSE's is by no means an amazing achievement, so it would be right for a low end job.

Because the sort of people that need these jobs or would work hard in these jobs don't have qualifications or skills.

My point is they want skilled qualified people to do unskilled jobs.

Well I am screwed I left school age 12 don't even have 1 gcse.

That didn't hold me back at all in the past I never had a problem finding a job until now, cant even get a look in now because I didn't go uni.

Why would a company employ someone with zero qualifications when they can employ someone with demonstrated literacy and numeracy and probably some relevant experience for the same wage cost? The issue is the labour cost being fixed, not the companies getting best value in a flawed market.

Yet people still rag on people on benefits when in 99.97% of the cases through no fault of their own.

It's easier than fixing the problem, and also a good diversion tactic from politicians to do something hideous in plain sight, while the general public are still waving pitchforks

But these people aren't on JSA.

They are on HB, IS, CTC, CTB, DLA which all adds up to a nice sum. If you are out of work with no kids or a disability then you are stuffed.

Hence why I have always said the system is flawed, not the people.

Having no qualifications or skills isn't the fault of the state or the taxpayer though.

The only 2 cents I'm willing to share on the subject is that it really grinds my gears when you hear people on Benefits whining about the struggle they have with so little money... but then you see them pull out their iPhone or turn on their sky box and I then think... it's not down to the amount of benefits you're getting that's causing the struggle it's your own stupidity in thinking that Sky and the most premium mobile phone service is a good spend.

Not all of them are. My cousin is 25 and he just gets basic JSA.

The same tired............but iPhone, Sky, flat screen TV.............argument. Do you really think Sky is going to say, oh well you've lost your job never mind paying the rest of your contract?

Maybe the iPhone was a gift for birthday, christmas, whatever. Don't go judging a book by its cover.

Supply and demand "init"

Problem for employers is that you can put out a simple job advert for a handy enough job and then 5k people will apply for it.

You cant discriminate on anything except education either. What do you do to remove the burden of checking CV's ?

I accept the iPhone point regarding the Handset as a gift however if they actually got the Phone with a contract and the SKY subscription can be cancelled at your request true the Phone one does incur a cost however the sky subscription can be cancelled at your own convenience.
