It is that time of year again.

So you are assuming the natural gas price will not fall in the UK if the shale fields are exploited. I profoundly disagree. Supply and demand is what drives the markets, when supply rises costs come down. Simple economics.

Then companies won't drill any more wells as they will lose money doing so... The market, geology and regulatory industry is totally different in Europe, it's not going to be the same as the US...

I find it laughable that people moan about the cost of energy. I'm not saying that it isn't expensive but generally people don't blink an eye at the up cost of keeping their gadgets and personal entertainment etc..

The latest smart phones alone are anything between £29 to £45 pm, that's before premium TV channels, internet cost, etc. The problem is here as that generally it isn't something people benefit from. It's an essential not a choice.. just like food etc and it threatens their personal disposable income. Whist I appreciate that these fuel companies and shareholders are making a hefty profit [from us] why is that different to supermarkets supplying us our food?

My only concern is the elderly. As long as they are looked after and the government support them then i don't see the issue. For the rest of us it's time to put things back into perspective.

Other than to perhaps demonstrate you don't understand what a profit margin is, what is your point?
Chill out
I made the reply from a phone whilst walking and missed the word 'margin' in the statement from Centrica.

The OcUK word police at their best there !!

Well the big problem with it is energy keeps going up along with food and everything else, but people on the lowest rung aren't getting paid any extra.

Don't believe the hype on both sides of your statement. Prices won't drop, and water pollution will be minimal.

I'd prefer "none" to "minimal" as regards pollutants hitting the water table. Accidents will always happen, no matter how careful the contractors are.

Is fuel included in RPI / CPI? I can't find it.

If it isn't, then that's an outrage because it doesn't reflect on consumer/public spending.

edit - i guess it's not included as retail items would already include transport costs.. but it still doesn't reflect it's usage within the home, such as heating..

Not just people on the lowest rung, the assault on living standards is affecting middle income earners as well.

At least the middle class can downgrade their house and car or whatever though.

Edit: Or middle earners not necessarily middle class lol

Does anyone have graphs trending wholesale energy/gas prices vs what we actually pay/the average household bill? Would be interesting to see what the trend is like.
