Hi,

Is there any problem in using TIM on the memory chips to mount the water block as opposed to the thermal pads that the water block comes with?

Thanks

Jason.

I thought it may be a height issue, but i dont have the pads :(

I can see that the original HSF dosent contact the mem chips at all, so surely any contact is better than none?

It will do no harm in truth, I just assumed you had the pads and didn't want to use them.

If you look at a Titan underneath, the 3GB of chips don't have any kind of cooling. Go for it and if it starts to artifact, you know you have to add some thermal pads (probably 2mm thick but check first).

i do have a little of the pad, not enough to use though, and after looking at it id guess its about .5mm once you remove the 2 adhesive sides. so im hoping it should be ok.

:)

Cheers

Jason.

Definitely save the pads for VRMs. A thick dollop of stiff TIM on the RAM will be better than nothing, although the pads are quite cheap anyway and handy to have.

The 1mm or 1.5mm ones will work.
