A nippy car for up to £15k

Am I the only one slightly concerned that if you are looking for something nippy 'when you floor it' and you are moving from a FWD to a RWD or AWD, that you will basically end up in a hedge if you buy a 135i/335i/Impreza/Evo. The driving style/dynamics, delivery and insane step up will be crazy over an ST.

Well my st is 30bhp and I can control it fine. I'm hardly going to start flying into corners at 150 mph :p

Ah you've got the de-tuned model!!

Have you ever drove an Impreza/Evo?

The Evos and Imprezas inspire far too much confidence and basically push you to the limit and egg you on even further. The issue is entirely that they are almost impossible to recover from when you've reached that limit.

At least in the BMWs you have predictable understeer - I'm not quite sure if you can accurately judge AWD in the same way. Many just seem to slide or spin out.

Lol Evo and Scooby? They would be almost boring control compared to an ST due to the fact how good the handling is, seen as you are glued to the road with the 4WD.

And as for he RWD, they ain't exactly F1 car complicated. Seriously, why would he end up in a hedge?

If he is wanting handling, get a Lotus ;)

300bhp even :p I drive mine quickly but I'm not the type who thinks they're Invincible. I know when I car needs some respect :D

 You'd have to be pushing extremely hard to get into big issues that you mention.

Maybe it is the water up 'ere, but they are very popular vehicles for people who enjoy pushing their vehicles very hard...

Ultimately, it is the OP's decision though.

P.S. a 300BHP ST seems a waste? Torque-steer?

I saw someone on here post a link to statistics that showed Scooby drivers were the ones that made the least claims.

RWD/AWD should be a non issue for someone used to driving relatively powerful cars, it's just a different set of potential issues to overcome.

It's actually really difficult to get the 330 properly out of shape with the dsc on (most you'll ever get is some controllable understeer) even with my dody (lack of) alignment so I doubt the E9x is going to be a tail happy monster. Sccoby/Evo's inspire a lot of confidence and yes when they eventually do let go you'll be a passenger but come on, anyone with an ounce of experience and or common sense knows how fast is too fast, lift off oversteer from the focus is arguably more likely to fire you into a hedge than any of the others.

Might not be a dwarf ;)

Soulja, how long you been driving? NCB?

2 years ncb. My insurance said I can swap over to a Megane 250 for £15 extra.

The water is fine and I don't push my vehicle hard. Just like any other person would who has an st. The torque steer is fine. It's the whip lash you have to deal with.

Well I've test driven the ST and GTI today and both were pretty nice.

The ST was the purple/blue colour and it looked REALLY nice. It's the best ST colour imo. Inside it has really nice comfy seats and the usual dashboard of previous fiestas. Nothing amazing but better than my dated Focus dashboard.

The steering felt lighter than my Focus but not too light. Does anybody know if this has the exhaust audio playing through the speakers like the new Focus ST? Because it didn't sound natural. It was really nice to drive, very smooth and felt nice around the corners. The acceleration was ok and it pulls decent. Obviously nothing like my Focus which rags you instantly where as this feels gradual.

The GTI looks really nice on the inside, a very nice black to red tint and a nice big sat nav screen. The dials might not be visible for people of a certain height as they seem to be placed on top of the dash. The exhaust note was a nice grumble, and it felt quicker than the ST, especially going from second gear, into third.
