NVIDIA and ASUS to announce glasses-free 3D monitor?

lol and i was just saying 3d is more pointless in gaming than 4k
its not new tho there's tv's that do it without glasses
for gaming its just distracting to me, unless they work it into the game somehow...duno...meh

in a game like walkingdead it would be cool

AMD said 3D is dead  :D This is music to my ears, a little upset that I've not long upgraded to a light boost monitor and 3D vision 2 but if this turns out to be good quality then I'm really excited. I am now in love with Asus and Nvidia :D

Its sold OK, not as rare as people think.

This new technology could be superb though, we shall of course be stocking the monitor. :)

Sold and used are different things though, many people bought 3d capable screens to use solely for the 120hz, others bought for 3d and don't use it preferring the 120hz. I bought for 120hz the 3d was a bonus that I tried and simply don't bother with. From just about every thread in the tv/monitor/gaming section I would say most people fall into the category I did. Tried it, can't be bothered with it, 120hz is way more useful.

Depends on the screen as well, my Samsung came with glasses, my Asus screen I went for the cheaper option without the glasses, mostly because I had tried and didn't like 3d by that point. Others will go for a deal for the Asus with the glasses because they wanted to try it.

If you look through 3d tv threads and 3d monitor gaming threads even the guys who love it, the majority say they still can't be bothered with it most of the time and many games don't lend themselves to it. So even those who love it still don't generally use it that much, most don't seem to love it but think it's okay or meh and for a decent portion of people it basically doesn't work or induces headaches/other issues and they don't use it at all.

I would like to try a non glasses version as the flicker/lower hz/brightness issues could all potentially be relieved and make 3d less of a hassle and I would potentially use it more often. But I wouldn't be surprised if extra screen layers would reduce the general quality of picture anyway. There is generally always a downside, a glossy screen is pretty much the best for picture quality and that has downsides.

Just a shame that Walking Dead game is crap!

3D needs to die a painful death in our cinemas, in our homes and in our lives in general.

Thank God 3D revenues in cinemas are failing, let's hope that sounds the death knell for it.

Interesting...I was a big fan of 3DVision. One of few it would seem

I'm in this group, find 3d to be stunning, despite this new monitor I'm just glad to hear nvidia are still supporting 3d, something amd have recently killed.

I am also in this group. Sure we are a minority but I feel pleased that Nvidia are actively supporting it.

Glad to see Nvidia supporting 3D.

I'm interested to see how well the tech works and hope it won't be stupidly priced, then again this is Nvidia.

3D support was one reason for me going over to Nvidia.

Some games are just brilliant in 3D.

Agreed! I was very skeptical about jumping to 3D but some games (Like Tomb Raider) look superb.

I will definitely keep an eye on this. It will be interesting to see how well it works.

I dont think 3d was ever fully endorsed by amd as it was left to tridef to sort out, but their loss is nvidias gain.

Games like tomb raider, crysis 2 & 3 as well as the batman games could sway anyone into enjoying 3D gaming.
