So I passed my driving test last Friday, really chuffed! I've got a grand saved for a car and as my GF knows someone at a Ford garage, they are going to get me a good deal. So yeah, just thought I'd share my excitement! Hopefully picking up a Corsa tomorrow (2004, 1.2 SXI, 57000 miles)!

I did a thread previously about getting something nippy, but recent money issues mean that's a no go! The only thing is, I know it's "blue", so it could be a girly, light, pastal blue but I don't care tbh as it's my first car I'll be happy with anything! :D

Any advice to a newb about anything driving related? My GF's dad is gonna check the car tomorrow, and also the guy who got me the deal is getting the guys to check it out mechanically before he sells it to me (it only came in today).

I'm assuming you've got a decent insurance quote for it? I'm 19 and a corsa sxi is more expensive to insure for me than my XJ6 and MR2 put together!

as long as it aint a red vauxhall, It'll be pink soon if not already :p
I've not seen a girly pastle blue corsa before, it might be their nice metallic blue!
Take someone that knows about cars with you.

Drive safe
Don't break the law
Enjoy it

you have already checked your insurance costs on the car yeah?
Add a family member should bring it down a tad, also theres a tool on MSE to work
out which job description works out cheapest for you too.

I'm getting £1000 total pay monthly from Diamond (lol) on the comparison sites. About £80 a month it was. I'm 24. That's with my girlfriend added too (6 years no claims).

I still need to try Elephant though as I got great quotes when I was messing around with quotes 6 months ago.

How much is the single payment option?

To work out the rough APR interest rates, take the difference divide it by the single payment and double it. (it's actually higher still as you pay more on your first instalment and so are borrowing less).

Prepare to be astounded.

For example, if £800 was the single payment, then you would get (200/800)*2 = 50%.

Then consider if you can get cheaper credit.

I think they are around £870ish, but I cant afford a single payment. Regarding credit, I'm in my overdraft and I've never had a credit card or anything so I doubt my credit would be good for a loan if that's what you meant?

I passed yesterday as well. Getting insured on an 09 Mini First which will cost £570 in one payment. 22 years old with dad as a named driver, pretty cheap I reckon.

Drove past the garage earlier, if it's the one its got tinted windows lol. But now I'm worrying if it's got any other mods like alloys because won't it really jack up my insurance?

Well the guy at the garage hasn't called yet, so I'm a bit gutted as they close at 5 and I've got the feeling I'm not gonna be getting the car today :(

You have a screenshot of the quote? I or otger can work out the APR for you. There are many credit cards out there from big companies like Barclaycard for people with little credit history.

Seems pretty damn cheap for a new passer.

Insurance in your name with dad added or in dads name with you added?

Any advice ?

Simples.. Adhere to the most basic rule of the road.

Dont hit anything

Now you have passed your test you will start to learn... People (Motorists) make mistakes. You MUST be aware of this and ALWAYS make allowances for it.

You'll make mistakes too.

Interested if you could recommend a credit card. The quotes are like £800-900 and then go up to £1100-1200 with pay monthly.

I remember doing quotes with Elephant.co.uk ages ago and they were awesome! But there online quote thing has been down for weeks, I guess I'll have to call them up...
