Do we need all the AA to keep killing out GPU's?

On my old res 1680x1050 and current 1920x1080 I've only used 2xAA as there wasn't much point using more. Rather have max AF.

Having been gaming since Doom, AA is a definite luxury.

With 1080p @ 24" I can see some differences if I stop and look around but in the mid game action .... I can't tell any difference.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Greg. Good idea for a thread imo, and a topic I personally haven't seen too much analysis of around here. :)

I like the thread.

I've been running the BF4 demo without AA @ 1080p and whilst it's noticable, it's not a problem.

I'm not really sure why this is, whether it's related to the resolution or not... but I like the idea that we could phase out AA and use the grunt for other things.

When playing a game I personally cannot tell much, if any, difference at 1920x1080. Normally I just put games at 2x (unless my GPU can handle more at 60FPS) then put all the effects etc higher. I can't tell the difference from anything higher than 2x :(

I don't particularly have good eyesight or attention to detail so I just turn it down as in most cases I don't notice it:) I do 'think' I notice it when its off rather than on but that could be my mind playing tricks making me think I notice a difference when I do not :p

Yer, certainly more of a pain uploading full size images like that than I thought :D

I do a fair amount of testing on a new GPU and was doing the same yesterday but one thing that struck me was after all my fiddling with game settings, I go back to playing and need to look at the settings options to know what it was on the last time I played it. I have often thought "This looks like max settings" and when I have checked, I have turned off MSAA or something similar. So can we seriously tell and especially in fast paced games?

Trick question, they're all using the same settings?!? :o
I can't tell the difference.

Edit: Also, new screen? :)

No T, each screen shot has a different amount of AA from 4* to 0 SSAO/HBAO and 4 of the pics are 1440P and 4 are 1080P. I was showing my Mrs earlier (I need to get a life) and she couldn't and even I got it wrong when telling her what was what and I have it all written down :D

9 settings listed, only 8 pics?

EDIT: some games are worse with the jaggies than others.. to me the first 4 looks like 4x but im sure most are not due to the res you play at and the fact that im trying to look at them using a 1080p monitor.
