On Benefits & Proud

Because private company's shouldn't be handed money from the taxpayer to pay their wage bill, even you must see that is just wrong, not to mention how many of those private company's pay a little higher than the minimum wage but would not have to pay those on the job guarantee the going rate, that is exploitation.

Would you also disagree with tax credits - the state agreeing to top up salaries provides a system whereby companies can employ people on a low wage while knowing that that low wage is feasible because the govt will boost it artificially to something more livable and in doing so also provides an indirect subsidy to the company.

But anything productive will take work away from paid employees, which you have made clear you do not approve of?

I don't approve of working for benefit full stop. If you work then it is no longer benefit, it is money earned and it should be the going rate. Private company's should advertise work where there is work to be done and pay a wage.

JSA should remain available to those seeking employment.

I think the NMW is a joke and working people who have to claim in work benefit to make ends meet is a disgrace. Company's should pay a living wage.

So would you approve of compulsory work at minimum wage after a extended period on the dole? That is what labour are essentially proposing. Obviously the work has to be pointless to avoid taking real jobs.

But if everyone pays the current living wage it becomes a kinimum wage and the living wage rises because increased employment costs are passed to consumers...

surely the government topping up wages then is just passing profit to shareholders

So you are ok with forced labour provided it is done by the state directly, doing pointless tasks and compensated at the rate of the minimum wage?
Make them all ride bicyles that generate energy and feed it into the grid , sell it to the power companies at market rate.

Indeed, that and keeping people dependent on the state. It is no surprise the system was developed by the authoritarian labour party.

No, forced labour is wrong, I think if a wage was offered then you wouldn't have to force anyone. The work should be meaningful, if it isn't then it's just a spiteful and pointless exercise, a punishment for being unemployed. Short sharp shock as it's been called.

If the work is meaningful, then it should naturally generate paid employment and not require government intervention to create the jobs.
