Cancelled XBOX one, new gear instead :)

We already know that an i5 does not cut it in BF4, an i7 min would be the recommended. While the 2500k overclocked is a great chip (mine is), it's being worn down by new games, advances in software, limiting it's life expectancy with new releases.

A PSU would be good idea if he is not sure of it's brand.

An i5 is fine.

An OCed 2500k (4.2Ghz) performs about the same as a 3960x and is only slightly behind at stock.

Can you tell us what case and mobo do you have?
Also, have a look at your Psu and see what Brand name, if any is written on it.
Not much use speccing coolers if we don`t know which will fit in your case. And you don`t really need to spend £50+ on a cooler to get a 4.5Ghz OC on the 2500k.

Not true in the slightest. Beta performance was buggy, I upgraded to Windows 8 and my 3570k ran perfectly.

You obviously didn't read the 2 threads on BF4 then.

The 2500k was the struggling chip, most 2500k owners had the same issue, didn't say anything about the 3rd/4th gen chips! Homework needed, or read the threads/posts first.

Well, my i7 950 is fine with a GTX470 on high for 30fps, I am not sure if that is good.

My 3570k was struggling as well...before I updated to Windows 8.

Which shows the beta is buggy. It's just silly to tell people they need an i7 for BF4.

why update the CPU?
An overclocked I5 will be fine for BF4, if you get a AMD GPU the boost mantle with give you when its released will be a greater benefit than HT.
Give it a year or so and let the new 8 AMD cores (which are slower than an intel 4 core with HT) mature in the consoles and then recommend an I7 for games at the moment they are not needed.
the 2500K is still a great CPU, you would be better OC it to about 4.5Ghz and buying a new GPU, i would wait for the new AMDs to be released and see what it does to the current price line up before buying, it should only be a couple of weeks now

They don't need it, he is saying that long term (as you are in an upgrade situation) getting a quad/hex core is beneficial. You will be able to run it on most setups if you just want everything turned off or low resolution.

If your really in doubt then overclock the current chip and see how well it plays when it comes out in a couple of weeks.
