haha pretty similar to my situation really, apart from wiping him out. I was trying all sorts to get around him but he kept on blocking my path, couldn't really do a lot in a measly 1.6 diesel, might have been a different story in the celica though. I've heard a lot of good reviews about the mini 0801 and it seems to tick all the boxes, costs just under £70 so not too bad

I've got one of the 0801 arriving tomorrow (hopefully). Seems a decent buy.

got it with GPS for £67.99 from Amazon. Installed this afternoon and it seems to work pretty well. video is decent and GPS locked for all but five minutes of my test drive.

The program you get with it does a decent job of showing speed and position on Google maps. it was nice and easy to install, though as you always do, when I was deciding the final position I had it lined up lovely, as soon as I took the liner of the adhesive it went a bit Pete tong.

one thing to note. I ordered a class 10 memory card, however the instruction recommend a class 4 or above, but not a class 10 card due to them being too fast, wtf???? sends to work so far though.

You may have issues with the class 10, stick to 4 or 6. It's not that C10 or UHS is too fast, it's that they use a faster bus speed and though supposedly backwards compatible, well not always.

I have never used one, but Fifth Gear did a piece on this recently (season 23, Ep 4)

They tested
- Samsung galaxy with DailyRoads Voyager app (free)
- Oitez GizPro (50gbp)
- Crash Catcher CC3 (rear view mirror cover)
- Road hawk HD (270 gbp)

and reckoned the Oitez was the best.

I've been looking for a while and it seems the best cameras are:

Mobius 1080p - £45 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151071891306
(Recommended on TechMoan - http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/7...e-do-it-all-mount-anywhere-1080p-micro-c.html)

Mini 0801 - £90 - http://joovuu.com/home/66-mini-0801-car-dvr-with-optional-gps.html or cheaper Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...0801&sprefix=mini+08,aps&rh=i:aps,k:mini 0801)
(Recommended on TechMoan - http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2013/8...-1080p-gps-car-camera-with-an-lcd-screen.html)

BlackVue DR400G II - £220 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/BlackVue-DR...qid=1382186676&sr=1-1&keywords=BlackVue+DR400
(Reviewed on DashcamTalk - http://dashcamtalk.com/blackvue-dr400g-hd-ii/ - Seems to have some issues still over the 1st version. I've been personally recommended this by someone who uses a lot of cameras in a fleet of vehicles.)

BlackVue DR550 Dual Camera (Front 1080p & Rear 720p) - £360 - http://www.blackvue.co.uk/index.php.../new-blackvue-dr550gw-hd-with-wi-fi-14-detail
(Biggest issue is blocking/artifacts at higher speeds due to low bitrate. Future firmware update could solve this, some people say it's currently good, others say it's overpriced.

DOD LS430W - £160 - http://dod-tech.co.uk/ls430w.html
(No reviews yet but going from previous models it should be a decent dashcam.)

MI Witness - £250 + Extras - http://www.carcamwarehouse.com/mi_witness.html
(Most reviews say it is a decent camera but far too highliy priced as it is only 720p. Once you extras on to it you're looking at BlackVue DR550 price which makes it a pointless buy.)

Hopefully this helps a few people out! I was going to go for the BlackVue DR550 but the higher speed pixelation is putting me off. The Mini 0801 looks the best buy if you don't want any extra functionality such as Wifi connectivity, iPhone/iOS App, front & rear recording.

I think I'd have to agree with the Oitez Gizpro after seeing the episode and doing a bit of research online.
You appear to get a slight fish eye lens view but it's good enough if you just want it for evidential purposes in the event of e collision etc.

Came across this last week:

http://www.ambarella.com/uploads/docs/A7LA-Brief-062013-1.pdf

Details of a new SoC that we'll hopefully start to see in retail products soon.

Key Features

Unparalleled Performance
  • Full HD @ 60fps or Super HD 3M @ 30fps
  • Two channel Full HD @ 30fps
  • Super Wide Angle configuration
Superior Image Quality
  • Advanced night vision for low light conditions
  • Full resolution over-sampling
  • Wide Dynamic Range (WDR)
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Automotive Smart Auto Exposure
Advanced Features
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
  • Integrated DRAM option for simplified system design
  • WiFi support for smartphone connectivity

Yes you're right - I only saw that after I posted. Hopefully that means we'll see retail products using it sooner rather than later.

Currently very few dashcams support WiFi. With WiFi, you can have smaller and more discreet dashcams without screens as you can view videos and align the device via your smartphone.

Think I'm going to go for 0801 front and rear for now. I was tempted by the BlackVue 550 but at twice the price of two 0801's I think I'll go for them, for now!

Just bought the Mobius 1080p. Absolutely no need for it but there was some spare cash sat in my PayPal account!

Will take a week or two for delivery but happy to test anything if needed.

Ordered a couple of 0801's from JooVuu which was more expensive but they arrived within 24 hours! I'd rather pay a bit extra and have to send them back to a UK address than somewhere in China in case any goes wrong.

Will try and test the front camera out this week but both cameras will be getting installed next week whilst the car is in the garage, hidden away wires and wired to ignition!
