Advice on 15k V8 Saloon

Maybe slightly left-field, but....link.

8 cylinders, saloon, and if you're only keeping it for a year then the chances of it throwing something ruinous at you are lessened.

Someone at work has one and when I hear him start it up in our covered car park area, I go a bit weak at the knees. Sod the running costs, just look and listen to it.

Audi S4 (2007/8ish) has a 4.2 V8 before changing to a 3.0T V6.

The V8 should be within your £15k budget, not sure sure on the v6

The 2008 on S4 didn't have a V8, only the S5 did. The S4 was introduced with the 3.0T.

You must be thinking of the previous shape S4 which is very much not a 15k car.

Thanks for the feedback guys...

So far from the above comments:

Older S4 inst really what Im after, the newer 3.0 super, maybe but I'll check prices.

The ISF I would love, its just out of reach but I can wait a year to get a good one

The Maserati would be great but just too much of a risk for me even for 1 year

I think the Jag XF SV8 is winning in my head at the moment...

A few questions though: Am I being daft not considering the M5? Approved used might be doable for a bit over budget?

Also, I have a soft spot for the M3 CS, I don't know why but I do. Its no saloon but its within budget and might be worth consideration?

My apologies. I've just had a quick look and sure enough what Fox said is correct.

Just to echo some of the above, the 300c is absolutely not a car to spend 15k on, every time you see one of the other cars mentioned you'll be hugely disappointed you didn't buy one. It gets decent reviews because you can be a but laity in it....but they are really, really poor inside and other than sticking its arse out willingly it has few redeeming features.

I've driven a 3.0tFsi s5 and a v8 s5 ( the v8 was replaced with the newer model)the new engine is very, very nice even though it lacks the v8 sound track so it would be worth checking out an s4 if they're in budget ( surprised if they are), though tbh there is something very bland about the a/s5 that's hard to put your finger on.

I'm not a jag fan at all ( I would never buy one as every car I've known has had numerous issues that to be fair jag have been good at sorting), but all I've ever thought when I've been in an xf is that it is a very very nice car that's full of nice touches, with the right engine i can see how it'd be incredibly tempting

The CLS looks really cheap inside now and though I've never driven an amg they aren't all that to drive, again not a 15k car for me

The only thing that would put me off buying a jag is the horrendous stories of multiple problems with reliability with the simplest things as well as bigger things. Some people have no issues and love the car but others have constant trips to the dealership I think someone on this board has a pretty new one and it's been back every month for a year!

Id be a little concerned about a non approved used s8.

I had a 4.0Tdi A8 a few years ago, great car but a little bit of a liability :)

I was seconds away from signing on an SV8 XF before going for the more "sensible" XF in the end.

They are stunning to drive. The only downside I found was that it's a little quiet considering its a supercharged V8, but that's credit to Jaguars soundproofing.

Definitely go for the Jag

The SV8 XF is the S-type R in new clothes so it pretty good. My only complaint is that it has standard no bucket seats which give bugger all grip and I always found myself sliding all over the place. The servicing on them is at less miles than the newer cars. The sv8 was phased out when the XFR was released so didn't get any of the minor updates such as satnav directions in the centre dash and steering lines on the reverse camera.

Well the time is now.

S80 is up for sale and im removing the plate.

Ive spoken with a few Jaguar dealers about the 4.2 XF, not the SV8.

I seen a really good value XJ Super approved used for £9250 but it sold :( It was a bit older but was a good deal for the spec/miles etc.

So, tomorrow on I will be negotiating a bit over 2 or 3 XF's with very good spec but the NA version of the 4.2

One is £13k, and another low miler for £15k. Both have great spec, but it comes down to the deal of course :)
