Hi guys after a bit of info,

Is it worth upgrading to a 4770K over a 3770K, if i take the 4770K route it also means buying a new mobo.

In 2 minds if the price of new mobo for the 4770K would be worth it.

The Cpu an mobo in my sig would be sold to bring price down also.

what are you struggling on atm? if you plan to go sli then id pick the cheapest option the 3770k

doubt the 4770k would be any faster in gaming

Don't really struggling with any thing at the moment Wazza m8 just for an up grade at the end of the month, will be going Sli at xmas.

Do play a lot of gaming an a bit of video editing/making.

its upto you really, but im happy with my 3770k,tbh cant tell the diff between that and my 2600k

you would notice the addition of hyperthreading though in some games

I would have thought the spec should be more than enough to run a couple of decent cards in SLi. Just flog your GTX 670 and get a pair of GTX770 and whack them in. :)

I need go i7 either way as il get a bottle neck from Sli an from a couple of bench charts show the 770 isn't that much of an improvement over the 670.

Performance vs £

I just bought an 3770k to put in my p67a board to replace my 2500k.

Couldn't justify the extra £150-£200 spend on a motherboard and new cooler for ~10% performance increase to be honest. Shopping around for a 3770k, and after selling my 2500k it should only cost £130-140 in total :)

I had to do a motherboard bios flash which was a bit tricky but all went ok and the 3770k is up and running now :)

Go with the 3770k, as you already have a Z77 board it will save some money. I owned a 3770k setup clocked at 4.5ghz prior to the spec in sig. It ran great with my sli 670's. Only got rid of it as it wasnt a great clocking chip, (very volt hungry). Aside from benchmarks where the 4770k scores a bit higher, in games theres no discernible difference i noticed. Also, the ivy bridge chip will run that little bit cooler.

Tbh, looking back now id have been just as well hunting down a proven clocking 3770k and selling on the one i had. As opposed to moving to haswell.

Take a look at this chart.

Can tell you this much after all the reading up ive done, ive come to the conclussion that if i switch to mainstream Intel it will be 3770k and not the 4770k. They are almost identical and the 3770k are not gimped when it comes to virtual machines which is something i plan on doing when steamOS hits..

I've been thinking of doing the same lately as my 7950 crossfire is being pretty damn bottlenecked by my 3570k at 4.3. Could stick in a 3770k but I begrudge paying the same price for one as a Haswell chip, hoping a nice This Week Only offer will pop up in the very near future. Although it means a new motherboard my current one is only x16 and x4 plus due to the size of the 7950's it covers some of the very poor place SATA slots so a new motherboard would be beneficial but only if the 3770k doesn't come down in price.

Whats the likelyhood of the 3770k's dropping any time soon?

This was my thinking ( though I did shop around and they can be had a bit cheaper than haswell....). I was waiting and waiting but they never seemed to drop much. Even 2600k/2700k's are still over £200 new!

Even though it was annoying that a 4770k could be had for not much more, I still saw it as a saving as I didn't really need a new motherboard or cpu cooler.

Best way is to keep an eye on the members market on here, they do pop up now and again. Also theres a better possibility of picking up a good clocking example.

Am tempted to give a big middle finger to Intel and go with an 8350 + Mobo for the same price as just the 3770/4770k. Only game I play is BF3 and soon BF4 which considering DICE were demonstrating them on 8350 with 2x7990's so they must do something right for the next game ;)

Only other is the odd bit of Rome 2 and that runs terribly on anything!

Bf3 and soon 4 are the games ill be running mostly too. Prior to the 3770k i was in the same position your in Richeh, had a 3570k that seriously bottlenecked my 670's in bf3. Swapping to a 3770k made a world of difference. Cpu use dropped down, gpu use shot up and the game felt so much smoother.
