Likely ebay outcome

What makes you think the parcel is missing? If the buyer hasn't made contact in 3 weeks whats to say he has it, is happy with it, and simply hasn't left feedback?

This,

I've sold plenty of things for £££'s on eBay and never heard a peep after sending it. Granted, I've always seen its been delivered, but if I was you I'd just sit quietly. Going to them saying OMG ITS LOST could mean if they were a gent of poor character that you lose out on cash and they keep the item....

If he claims I am afraid eBay will side with the buyer and refund the money.

You should always have a way of the item being tracked as the buyer could claim to never had it and open and win the case.

Never ever send anything without tracking and the appropriate insurance. Ever

Won't Royal Mail be liable given that you payed for a signature and they apparently don't have one?

You could only argue to the amounts listed above... Otherwise you could if said you sent a £99,999,999 necklace and it went missing.

Isn't it something like 6 weeks before you can claim a no delivery?

With that price tag I would have sent it insured. If it does go missing your only going to get a small amount back

Why cant you just name the "crazy place"?

Then at least we can tell you how stupid you are and what you should have done in hindsight. :p
