Okay, so now i need to buy a flash, as a gig i wana shoot is indoor with poor lighting.

Ive looked in the past at the SB 600 but its over £100..

I fancy something a little cheaper for the time being which is why i looked at this model.

Now, is it worth the money? What should i look for when buying a flash? Are there any other flashes worth looking at? I can get this delivered for around £55 brand new which is fantastic, but i would stretch a tad if its really worth it.

Thanks

James.

I've got a a YN-560 III to compliment my Canon 580EXII for some strobist stuff and its very good but... If you're going to use it for on-camera flash it doesn't support TTL, its manual or multi mode only. The YN-560 II i believe is almost identical but doesn't have the built in wireless to support the rf-602 / 603 triggers.

From the bay the III can be had for £52 delivery from within the UK.

At the heart of it, all flashes are the same. It's a light with a switch and a power slider for power output. If you know what you are doing, and know the limitation of it, you will get pretty much the same effect with all of them. More expensive flash is more features and if you ask me, it's worth it, if you know how to make use of it. Or you want to use those extra features.

I dont know what to do then, 565ex instead?

For your first flash I would definitely recomend something TTL comptible just becuase it is very useful and makes getting started very easy. The Yongnuo options are very popular, competetively priced and pretty decent so I'd pick up the best ttl compatible model you can afford you can always sell it on later for a very small loss.

I'm considering buying a couple to use off camera, but I don't think I would use one on camera. They don't have TTL, hence the price really.

As slave flashes they do work very well. They have enough power for my needs, build quality is pretty amazing given the price (virtually identical to my 580exII), s1 works fine and i also use some 2.4ghz triggers for when they are hidden behind something.
