7970 Matrix Plat. 3-Way Crossfire Motherboard?

Hi,

Is there an (AMD Compatible) motherboard that would fit three 7970 Matrix Platinums in Crossfire? I've seen two of these cards in a Crosshair V Formula Z but even then it looked very tight with each card being 3 slots wide.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Whatever board you find it's going to be tight with three of those monsters. The Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 Rev 3.0 looks like it may do it. Maybe the Sabretooth too but not to sure on that one.

The trouble with that I think is that the 4th slot down is only PCI-E 4x.

It doesn't look like the Sabretooth will even physically fit 3 of those cards?

TBH even if they do fit I imagine airflow is going to be a problem, you should look at some other cards imo.

Wouldn't he get the most of those 3 cards on an intel cpu?

Thanks for the replies. Apparently the Crosshair does fit three 7970 M/Ps.

I'd really like to find that out as well, as I currently have an 8350 cpu. Any suggestions?

Cost of a formula-Z is quite high compare to many formidable haswell motherboards.

If i were you i would sell the 8350 and get a 4770k and 280x's instead because they can be had for cheaper and many feature the same base clock. You will also have more breathing room between the cards and i hear the Toxic cooler is no slouch! After a decent overclock, your bottleneck will be much lower.
