Contemplating picking up a 500GB SSD alongside my PS4 order, anyone doing/thinking the same?

From a quick Google it appears the PS4 will use a SATA 3 6GB/s connection so can take advantage of faster drives.

Personally looking at the cheaper sub £200 variants of SATA 6GB/s drives like the

OCZ Agility 3/4
Kingston drives
and a few other lower end models

The more expensive stuff like the M500 & evo drives may be a bit of a waste.

Got SSDs in my PC, and cant imagine going back to non SSD loading times etc. Also is there any information if you can install all games to hard drive like on Xbox one? or is that simply for downloads.

Nope, SSDs are still way too expensive GB/£ for the benefits to be noticeable.

Disagree, pretty much standard to have an SSD in PC's these days and the benefits are huge. Best upgrade you can do in any PC in my opinion.

GB/£ I agree, but it depends on what its worth to you.

I think he means for a ps4 not a PC?

Not gonna bother tbh for ps4 due to the way it should pause a game while in sleep mode and go right back into it after which means you only have to load it once unless you swop games a lot which a lot if us won't be doing when it comes out.

For a PC, sure. I wouldn't be without an SSD in my PC.

In a console, sorry. The benefits versus cost aren't worthwhile. A console uses storage in a much different way to a PC. I saw some small benefits when I stuck a spare 60GB SSD in my PS3, but nothing like the sort of performance increase with a PC.

I know

Ahh cool, I thought it was due to the PS3 only having SATA 1 hence the insignificant increase.

These new consoles are essentially PC's so was hoping for a similar increase considering it is using a X86 CPU and will be using a similar PC chipset this time around.

Guess ill allow someone else to be a guinea pig and then make a decision.

I would, unless your having all your games as digital downloads your still gonna be at the mercy of a 6x blue ray drive at the end if the day and ssd would be a tad wasted I think defiantly at near 200 quid for it.

Just found this:

Technically, the PlayStation 4 Blu-ray speed is rated at 6x, for maximum read speed of 27 MBs per second.

I won't be getting an SSD at launch but it's nice to have the option of it down the line and I expect. Hopefully loading times won't be that much of an issue. Mind you with the new machines having 8Gb of RAM I can imagine that large HDD installs will become a lot more common as loading data from the Blu-Ray drive will likely be way too slow.

Answered my own question in OP

SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed you can fully install games onto the PS4 hard drive.

This was confirmed on Yoshida’s official twitter when he answered with a simple “yes” when a fan asked him about it.

This means you can buy a disc-based PS4 game and install the full game content onto the hard drive. However, the disc still needs to be inside the PS4 for verification purposes.

The OCZ 480GB drives can be picked up sub £130, so only £50 more expensive than an Xbox One both without games!

If the three OCZ drives I've had die within two months are anything to go by I wouldn't touch that deal with a £&@£?! stick.
