So if you run a game (or even a desktop) on a 2560x1400 monitor at a lower resolution, how well do they tend to cope?

In my experience of running at non-native resolutions on old LCD monitors they tended to look too blury for comfort? Is this still the case? Or do they interpolate really well these days?

Only game I've done this on was a really old one called Myth of Soma that would only run in 1024x768 and it looked ok even when fullscreened.

Wasn't the aspect ratio crazy? Or did you have black bars left/right?

Depends how low you want to go... 1280x720 or 1920x1080 look great for video on my Asus. For gaming, 1280x720 scales very nicely, as it's 1/4 the res, but 1920x1080 is also very playable. That said, once you've gamed at 1440p, there's no going back!

The only game I've been forced to upscale long term is Longest Journey, which is 640x480. In full screen, that's just too much of an ask... If you're going below 1280x720, it's worth dropping your desktop down to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 and playing in windowed mode

I've found my 2713hm to be pretty good at lower resolutions. I have played a number of PS3 and 360 games on it and they still look great (GTA V, Last of Us, GT5, Forza 4).

I'm also worried about desk top as well. I have an old PC that can't support this resolution

Just tried the desktop at 1920x1200 (I think thats you gpus max res) and it doesnt look great tbh. Text is a bit blurry and would be a pain to have to use for any length of time. For fast moving games it wouldnt be too much of a problem, but for general Office/Web use I wouldnt fancy it.

I Have 2 DGM 27" ones. Only real game ive played at low rez is roller coaster tycoon 3, seemed to be alright, scaled a bit strange, slightly cut off but not unbearable. It does throw my open pages on the other screen into a hissy fit though, pushes them half way across the screen and everything. I've tried other games in 1080p and it seems fine, sometimes it defaults to 1080p before i can change it. Still seemed fine to me once again, apart from the 2nd screen again. But overall it seemed to cope ok.

My old machines max resolution is supposedly 2048 x 1536. And that is only used for desktop, browsing and document etc. Not games.

But it sound like things wouldn't be promising...

My fear is even if I ignore my old machine, the 7870XT on my main machine won't be up to 2560x1440 with newer games.
