Nice restaurant in London for a family?

I'm after booking a nice restaurant in London for my wife's 40th Birthday, we're also taking our 2 children (7&10).
I'm after somewhere special, we've done Claridges before which was amazing but this time looking for something slightly less formal.

If anyone has any suggestions?

NOTE: In Persian restaurants, after dinner it is common for the tables to get cleared away and everyone spends the rest of the evening dancing. Also, be aware that Persian men all seem rather better at dancing than most blokes, regardless of age and everyone takes a turn dancing in the circle... so if you don't have the moves you'd best get learning, as I've yet to meet a woman who didn't love these places!!

any budget in mind?

try bookatable. i recently got a deal through them for Koffmann in Knightsbridge. very nice dinner, atomsphere is smart but not dead serious like Ritz. seen quite a few kids while i was there too.

alternatively try "burger and lobster", fairly good food with nice atmosphere. not too expensive either.

London is hardly a food capital, they've got some good restaurants but a lot of it is completely overpriced and pretentious.

Not sure if serious. London has some amazing restaurants, and is certainly one of the great cities to visit for a superb and extremely varied culinary experience. Of course, your opinion is your opinion .

I hate London, for food, it's full people who do "fashionable cuisine". I can't stand that, if I know I'm dining with a bunch of those *****s it ruins the vibe.

There's some good restaurants but often you'll be paying for the name instead of the food or the skill of the kitchen staff.

This happens in almost all the decent food cities in the world. You ever eaten in New York or San Francisco? Half will be very heavily priced, whereas you can eat incredibly well without giving up much cash.
