Replacing one tyre

Hello,

What are the adverse affects, if any of replacing one tyre, lets say for arguments sake all the other tyres have 4MM of tread.

In this situation i (where my tyres are £250-300 each) would probably buy a matching 4MM tread tyre from ebay and get it fitted. This would keep them all the same and enable you to change them all together in future.

Either that or replace both on that axle, depending on what tyre we are talking about and what the rest of the condition of it is.

With a high performance car best get them done in pairs... on a normal 1.4 run around its probably not going to make much difference really. Just make sure all tyres have good tread.

I thought it was tyres on a driven axle had to be done together? Or am I talking out of my ***?

Surely the opposite would be better for most people. With them being so expensive, nto having to replace them all at once would help.

I meant as opposed to changing the other one unnecessarily. In your plan you will end up with very different tread depths over the same axle, which isnt recommended is it?

I always thought it was advised to do both sides of one axle at the same time, otherwise yer gonna be forever changing individual tyres

That's exactly what im wondering and i suppose the answer is obvious but its for a cheap run around so im not exactly wanting to spend a lot of money on it

I'd probably buy 2 tyres (rather than 4). It's not exactly much more money because the other one only has about 1.5mm of life left in it anyway so would need replacing at some point soon regardless.

I never spend more than £50 on a tyre and never buy in pairs etc. only buy when needed. Never an issue.

Ok thanks for the serious replies, currently there are two Toyo Proxes 4, one of which is the one that requires replacement

There are also two Pirelli P7000 but they are both not an issue

Option 1 - Buy one Proxes 4

Option 2 - Buy two Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39 and see if I can sell the good Proxes 4 on ebay

I'll weigh up the costs and take it from there, cheers
