Hi there,

Last night I went up to a high-street PC shop and bought a 13" macbook pro retina 2.4ghz, 128gb SSD, 8gb ram for £1249 I did not know that apple were releasing a new model until I checked on the website when I got home!

Now obviously for the same price I can get the 2.5ghz , 8gb and a 256gb SSD drive..

Now i went back up tonight and told them and they told me because it was opened they could not take it back and re fund me but they have told me that when they do receive the new models in store they will swop it over for the one with the same price ..

do you think this is a fare deal? It was ok by the manager there and the guy who was dealing with me put his name on the receipt and signed what what was going to happen.. i just hope it don't take a month like they said until they get them, wish i had knew before hand as I would have just ordered it from apple just they said just normally use this one and then they will swop it over when they get them in

Well yeah, as you're getting a better machine for the same price, providing they actually honour it of course.

buying it from a high-street PC shop was your biggest mistake, if you had gone to apple they would have taken it back no problems, it could be weeks before PC world get the new one in stock

Yeah I understand, I rushed into it... I know that and I am not fussed about waiting a few weeks as long as they do swop it and not mess me about

A high-street PC shop are terrable for take backs, as soon as you open your box they dig in the heals and will be really difficult. I'd be wary that the person you spoke to will honour what he has said.

They would not give me a credit not as it was already opened. the guy who said he would swop it was the manager and he said they would not be a problem

Did they give you any indication of when they would get the new models in?
Unfortunately, they are under no obligation to swap it unless it's faulty.

He wrote down on the receipt and signed it that they would swop it so I have the proof, they were going to let me know when they are getting it in, let's hope they don't mess me around when I go into swop it because I will not be a very happy customer

TBH is the new one a real necessity? Do you HAVE to have it? You were perfectly happy with the spec of the current one you just bought when buying it, so why do you have to have the new one? So what if it's a bit faster or whatever, are you really going to need that and notice that? Tbh if you were researching macbooks prior to your purchase you should have known the new one was coming out. If you're adamant for a swap as people have said I'd try get it in writing.

^ That argument might stand if you bought it 2+ weeks ago but on the same day and before the price reduction. Think you would be hard pressed to find anyone not disappointed.

The old stock has to sell through somehow though. Anyone who is going to spend £1250 on a laptop really should have done some market research and realised there would be a new model.

You really should have done some homework and noticed that the lineup was due for a refresh.

Also, if you were to buy a laptop that had been opened and its seal broke, would you expect some money off it or not? It works both ways :)

As long as you see the same manager you should be ok though
