'No Sex Please, We're Japanese' on BBC2 at 9pm tonight.

I'm thinking this will be worth a watch especially if you're interested in the Japanese culture.

In a world where most countries are anticipating problems caused by population growth, Japan expects a stunted reproduction rate caused by the absence of more and more men from the dating scene. This has been blamed on otaku culture - an obsession with computer games, manga and animation - and it has caused a rise in the number of young people with virtual partners, meaning a dwindling generation of future tax payers.

It comes across as plain creepy to me at times. On the plus side, there's never been a better time to get yourself a Japanese wife. :)

This assumes that the guys who are into this are one, likely to reproduce in the first place and not those weird guys who never really have a relationship and never have kids any way and two, that these guys can't change their minds later in life.

Sounds a bit like a stupid program to me jumping to conclusions, much like the way programs on piracy assume everyone who downloads and plays a game/film/music would otherwise have bought said item instead so every download can directly be counted as lost income.

EDIT:- could still be interesting as frankly guys like that are weird and Japanese people are a bit weird in general and usually interesting :p

Interesting how the future of countries, just as the free market, are reliant on infinite growth.

Should come over here where the Woman are only interested in scummy boyfriends who look hard or want to go out and get drunk!

Japanese/Asian girls are so phwaaaaaa hot

The Japanese are a noble people, saturated in honour and discipline

Could a presenter be more any more patronising than this woman? Christ. She's awful.

Agree ... she was pretty awful and obviously had her own opinions of things biasing her reporting.

As for the quote in the OP ... the problem with blaming it on the people with "2D girlfriends" is that the chances are that they probably wouldn't have girlfriends anyway even if they didn't have that ... (which is the cause and which is the effect ... do they like 2D because they can't get 3D ... or can they not get 3D because they like 2D).

A bigger problem is probably the hours that some of them work ... if you are leaving home at 5am to catch a train into Tokyo and then not getting home to 10-11pm 5-6 days a week then you are hardly going to have the energy to be doing the nasty ...
