try and continue Dark Souls, or start Dragons Dogma dark arisen

My first playthrough was probably around 50-60 hours, but I know I spent a good chunk of time farming souls during that playthrough. I reckon most first time players probably take 40-50 hours on their first go, purely as there will be a lot of dying and learning of new enemies and bosses. That'll jump up even more if you do some PvP or co-op play. Just enjoy yourself and take your time, it's certainly not a game you should worry about rushing :)

^true yeah was just checking against my time so far so got a fair chunk of game left then!

Got invaded last night but didnt see the chap so not sure what thats all about just yet, i just carried on carefully just incase i saw someone

Not completed Dark Souls but Demon's took me about 50-60 hours. I'm about 25 hours into DS and I've spent a lot of that time farming. Been to a lot of areas but not explored as thoroughly as I'd want. I really need to get back into it. So many games around atm though I'm struggling to find the time to play them all! I've got DD: DA aswell which I need to finish!

My first playthrough of Dark Souls was over 90 hours, including the dlc(Prepare to Die Edition).

I played Demon's after that, and it took me about 32 hours.

Received the really nice looking hardback guide today from GT on Facebook, amazing condition! Hopefully will contain information i will find useful, if not, its a nice thing to have on the shelf :D

Harsh tbh. At its core excellent mechanics. Combat is most fun ive seen in any rpg (dark souls combat is more tactical and trying to survive imo).

Some glaring things let DD down but maybe one day we'll get a sequel on PS4. All the valid criticisms of it are in the DD thread.

Maybe a little harsh tbh, but the game is just such a missed opportunity!... It is nearly there, but has some massive deficiencies

I've got the guide as well, and it's lovely, but be aware that several updates to the game have rendered parts of the guide completely incorrect.

Cool thanks i was expecting this to be the case, i was just reading through about all the stats and what they do and its provided me with a better idea of what to spend souls in, do i eventually loop round to dark root gardens as i think im ready to try that area again now but dont want to run all the way back :P also could do with a blacksmith

Im at start of the depths, first bonfire in there

Nope, no loop back I'm afraid, though there is a shortcut you can take. If you leave the Depths you'll notice a set of stairs straight in front of you. This leads you back through the aquaduct to Firelink Shrine. Also, did you unlock the elevator that links Firelink Shrine to the Undead Parish? If you did, you could run from the Depths to Darkroot in about 3 minutes :)

Ahh ofcourse yes forgot about the elevator! I was thinking i would have to go back past the dragon etc :D good shout there mate ill give that a go tnite :)

Also do i need to worry about joining a covenant? Or is that for mp really?

Core game is great. Combat - good, Pawn system - good character customization - good. Party Exploration - good. If they improve the quests improve the world design (different enviros, more cities, more interactivity, better npcs) make world bigger, harder, more varied enemies (and more onscreen), more skills, improve the AI (including pawn AI) then MAYBE ;)

Covenants you get special magic and/or weapons as well so yeah definately join one.

And tbh i see mp as being part of the experience of SP Dark Souls journey (not separate although yeah you can do exclusively mp if you like)

Maybe start saving money (20,000 i think) for that Seal which opens another area of Darkroot ;)
(theres a hidden bonfire just to its left behind a wall...usually (and quite helpfully) you see messages from other players where there is a hidden area/bonfire)

Beat the Gaping dragon! Surprisingly easy, managed to chop the tail off too! Got a good 25000 souls so now I'm scared i will lose them all lol

Need to get back to Andre to buy the crest for 20,000

Yeah, the Gaping Dragon is probably one of the easier boss fights, but he can still cause problems now and then if you stay too close for too long. Did you summon Solaire to help you? He makes the fight a little easier (if you have some ranged attacks) as he just plows in and keeps the dragon busy while you throw whatever ranged attacks you have at it.

I have to disagree... Summoning solaire or Lutrec, or even both at the same time always makes it harder for me, as I find they disrupt the dragon's attack patterns..... I have died on Gaping dragon quite a few times with a summoned NPC or two, but never solo!

No i was alone :O i just waited for him to charge and ran away, come back round to his side/back get a few hits in, run away and repeat! Only every now and then he did the vomit thing :P the first time i started running and got to a wall and it disapeared as it reached my feet and i was like 'phew' :D

Also i applied the lightning stuff to my weapon which really helped until it ran out then half way through realised i wasnt using my shield so put my longsword in 2 handed mode and did a load more damage

was really exhilerating though, dont get that buzz from any other game

i need to try and go round in human form to summon people dont i?

Have to pick this up. But I found Demon's too hard. Want to give that another go though.

But did have a quick go at Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen last night. Looks like it could be alright.

Just has an aspect of character movement that I hate - there's like two speeds, walk and run, and I hate the way it swaps instantaneously between the two. I like it when the change in speed is gradual. I don't know why this bugs me in games...
