It would be interesting to know the statistical details for those surveys ... if they've only asked people in Tokyo then some of that could easily be due to the long hours they can work with a commute on top.

As for the people dating computer game characters ... well at least they aren't really harming anyone and you have to ask if you are the sort of person who want to date a computer game character then are you actually likely to be able to get a real person to date you even if you try ...

I remember watching Louis Theroux when he did a show about Japanese people who had dolls made as close to possible as humans (real feel skin, real hair) and that was just plain odd.
 
Yeah, I think if they get the motion right it's going to climb right into the uncanny valley for me, it's already creepy. I can't see these doing much to improve the situation in Japan, what happens when they reach human proportion? We'd definitely find one of those in Magnolly's basement, where he manifests his self-hating and tries to deny his lust for otaku by smothering it with his hugging pillow... but much like his lust, it just won't die.

I have a bloke in my office who is anime mad for all the wrong reasons and is always having anime related trash delivered, most of it schoolgirl themed and 18 cert.
He's married with 3 kids but I'm sure when the kids are in bed he locks his self away in his man cave for some serious fapping action. His intimated as much anyway.

It's all rather disturbing and just plain weird.

Nope, I was there in May for 5 days. Being a black guy, I had no problems from them and all were very friendly and helpful......even when I got lost.

Tempted to buy figures a few times but explaining them to family and friends would be awkward. :eek:

Yeah, I went into the anime thread a while back from a long hiatus from watching anime and I watch what you and I would call normal and grounded; but there's some really questionable things people like in there. It's basically animated children and it's really messed up.

They're so open about it too :|
