Virgin Media Discussion Thread

me and a few friends in the same area are on between 60-120meg but come the evenings we lucky to get 3 meg :s

Anyone know when they messed with the traffic management thresholds? I check once in a while and it looks like they ungimped the values quite a bit this time. I might actually start using my connection without having to look at the clock first.

That's excellent, much better than before, still poor for anyone who uploads a lot.

I wouldn't mind the upload throttling if the speeds were fast enough in the first place. I'm perfectly happy with 120mb for the next few years but the upload speeds are pretty poor in comparison

The reason being that they were slapped by ASA for the Unlimited claim while having such harsh penalties. Just the ridiculous -65% reduction on upload to go now, hopefully they get slapped for that too.

2x20Mb/s upsteam channels shared between hundreds of people is never going to be pretty.

True, but they shouldn't be selling 12mb up in that case. When they eventually roll out 200/20 ish (which i imagine will be sometime next year) they'll probably go back to the old -75% reduction again so you end up with 5mb up instead of 20mb during peak times :(

I still happy with mine, been with them for more years than I care to remember now, this is in my new house. A solid 14-15mb/s from usenet, can't complain.
I've also noticed as mentioned earlier that the throttling is no where near as bad any more.

Weird issue today, been noticing Gmail complaining about errors when managing email throughout the day although web surfing seemed to be fine so just now did a pingtest which showed high ping/jitter (100+ jitter). Remembered I had a TBB graph still running so I checked that...

Wtf! Rebooted both router (WNDR3700 v2) and SuperHub (v1) and re-ran ping/speedtests:

(B because I don't install Java for the packet loss test to run...)

Whatever it was it's sorted now. I don't know if it was the router or the hub though, I should have rebooted one and retested to confirm this, will have to keep an eye on those two.

mrk - I keep getting the same (happened 3 times now) - after a no. of days the superhub starts doing that - reboot fixes it

only started happening recently

here was the other day - days of this before I realised - see how it goes from a really nice line connection to really bad

but I did a manual reboot 1 in the morning - and back to normal

That's crazy, has there been a firmware update recently? I'm in modem only mode so it shouldn't be doing stuff like this. I'll check my tbb graph again later today but as with yours, it looks normal again now.

Same here, the only tell that soethign was up was Gmail telling me is was retrying an action because of an error every time I did something and then I investigated further!

Strangely I did game earlier online and there were no issues. Youtube was streaming fine as well.
