If these performance numbers posted by credible reviewers at OCUK hold up, then AMD could have a second, more affordable graphics card for you, which outperforms NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 780, at least in synthetic benchmarks. In a brief performance run that spans synthetic tests, which included Unigine Heaven 3.0 at 1080p and 1440p resolutions, with normal level of tessellation; 3DMark 11 (performance preset) and 3DMark Fire Strike (both Normal and Extreme); the card we believe to be R9 290 (name blurred out in the graphs) is consistently faster than the GeForce GTX 780 reference, in the same bench.

Based on the same 28 nm "Hawaii" silicon as the Radeon R9 290X, the R9 290 is its more affordable sibling, featuring 2,560 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 512-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. It features clock speeds of 947 MHz (core), and 5.00 GHz (memory, GDDR5-effective). There's no word on pricing, but it could be available from the 31st of October, 2013.

Hope it is to be honest, it will drive prices down even more hopefully and stop nvidia releasing the 780ti at a stupid price of £600 or something.

Suarez& - it will cause waves but I still think 780 ti will be released at a stupid price. Now if AMD did something like Nvidia did with 460......get the aftermarket 290X OC versions out and sent to reviewers when 780ti we could see it get sunk before its launched.

Will AMD do that? we'll see :)

This at £350 or so give or take is a winner. Would defo be on my purchase list if I didn't have a couple of 7970's and sticking until 20nm.

Heck I might even get 1 for my recycled x58 system that I have just recently replaced lol.

Hope Gibbo does not get in to hot water with AMD.
Yea...now just hope Gibbo wasn't too sleep when he did those benches. If the results are wrong, the reputation of OcUK could go down the drain :D

To be honest with the results of the 290x out, it's not really hard to guess the performance of the 290 anyway. The only thing remain uncertain is the price point.

Given the AMD deals Gibbo keeps posting, I wouldn't be surprised if AMD said it was fine to post them as they were.

The results are the results.

Since then I've got the Pro going far quicker, now I am running it at 1220 / 6600, it was clocked way lower before.

The Pro is simply epic card.

Considering AMD's relationship with OcUK, if you do get into trouble for leaking the results, the worst's gonna happen is they might send a big guy over along with a 100 McDs's hamburger and stuff it down your face I think? :D

By the way, any chance you gonna do OcUK Tech Lab Custom 290 as well with the MK26 cooler??

Do you think that factoring overclocking on the pro, that it could actually topple the 290X, in the same way that a lot of 780's clock better than Titan's due to have more headroom?

I.e point of diminishing returns, more shaders / less overclocking.

Wouldn't mind a play with these cards I must admit. First thing I would do is get some ghetto modded cooling on that toasty GPU, and see what it can do.

AMD are smashing NV's back doors in right now!

So far, what we have seen this cycle from AMD has been superb, great price/performance from all new cards, and some real nice noNn ref designs (looking at you Sapphire 280x Toxic).

I can't wait to see the full range in non ref designs, and then see NV have to slash prices to compete.

BRAVO AMD!!!

Well we leaked nothing, our communication from AMD included 290, when they changed it we changed our results to NDA, but we could hardly take the results down.
