Hi,

I have the parts below coming and doing my first self-build. Would like to overclock just a little not sure what up to 3.8 or 4.2, no idea how to do this but with u-tube and help from here should be able to work it out!. Are the 4 120mm fans that come with this case and the aftermarket CPU cooler adequate or do I need a couple more 120 fans? Case still out of stock for another week or so.

I know those Haswell chips can get pretty toasty! The aftermarket cooler should be ok for a small overclock, just keep an eye on the temps when running anything that stresses the CPU. 4 x 120mm case fans should be fine if they're well placed/positioned ;)

I'm using my 4770k at 4.2ghz with the Gelid CPU cooler and I get around 65-70c under full load.

So as i'm new to overclocking myself what would be considered a 'small' overclock with this processor 4.2 or less?

How much do case fans actually add to CPU temps over and above the CPU cooler, provided they are well set up?

Small/Moderate overclock for 4670k IMO. I wouldn't worry over trying to hit a certain speed, if i were you i would get comfortable overclocking bit by bit and just see how high you are prepared to go. As long as you keep things cool, its pretty safe (relatively safe even if you don't, TBH).

As above, 4.2GHz is a very achievable target while keeping it safe early on.

Case fans will have their greatest effect on the ambient temps in your case, and that does have an impact on how effective your cooler is. More so if your room is quite warm already (you want the biggest difference in temperature between the chip and the air running over the cooler possible). The cooler will have a much more noticeable impact on your cpu temps though, so I wouldn't obsess about it. As long as your fans create a good flow of cold air in and warm air out then you'll be grand.

Let us know when you're up and running so we can help you out as you go! I remember my first overclock being really exciting: free performance!
