Hey guys,

currently got a 6950 Toxic, its served me well, but with BF4 coming im wondering if its time to upgrade, spec is in sig, but to recap i got a 2500k @ stock and 16gb of Corsair ram currently.

Wondering if i should go for a new 7970 or 280 or something? will my CPU be enough or will i benefit from upgrading that and the mobo first? was thinking of spending about £350 in cash and whatever i can recoup in selling bits can be lobbed in too.

thoughts?

Overclocked your i5 2500K to as high as you can, and then hope next week's R9 290's launch would be at around £350? If not, then get a 7970/280x.

For multiplayer on BF4, you'd want all the CPU grunt you could get, particular if you did go for the R9 290.

Im thinking of upgrading my cpu also as I think my Asrock z68 ex4 g3 will take an ivy cpu? Then oc that should give me the grunt to run a 280? Doubt I would go for a 290 and cpu upgrade

Ok if im going to OC it to 4.5 i might need to look at my antec kuhler 920, i run it on silent but to keep the heat down i will prob need to run it more aggressively and its loud, so i guess i should look at new fans for it, or perhaps swapping it for another cooler? i'll check the cooler section for advice.

Thx for the tips lads

No your Antec Kuhler 920 is a very capable cooler...i5 2500K doesn't run too hot, it should handle the overclocked overclocked i5 2500K fine in quiet mode (unlike IvyBridge/Hawell CPUs that got sealant trapping the heat). I am only using a £25 Gelid Tranquillo V2 CPU cooler, and even with my i5 2500K on 4.80GHz, the load temp while gaming still doesn't exceed 65C.

my CPU idles at 32c in a very warm house (Wife keeps it around 25c ambient, shes from the carribean and doesnt like the cold lol)

Gaming which is mostly WoW right now and sometimes D3 and BF3 it can get upto the mid 40's i think, dunno i dont always check.

You shouldn't have to use too much voltage with a manual OC, so just grab some decent fans and you should be good to go :)

I would still recommend GT's for best noise/performance.
