New (old) house renovation to have distributed AV!

Sweet. How are you splitting your sources to each amp? Or using the output from the 5.1 amp to the 2.0?

I plan to run seperate sources up and down for some of the items like my virgin tv service, apple tv etc, if i want to have it to both i'll be using an hdmi amplifier to split between the 2 amps. i'll fine tune this when i start to install the components.

What made you go that way, i run a sonos setup but have been thinking of using the 2nd zone of my very good AV amp to run the bathroom. Currently i have a ZP into the amp for the living room but cant seem to work out how i would control the amp to switch it to zone 2 short of using the amps remote?

reason i went that way is because i wanted to have remote video only and the sound from the amp's outputs ran with speaker cable through the house.

me and my wife as im sure others can relate dont always like to watch the same thing so on the chance that i wanted to view something different in another part of the house if i only had a single source this wouldnt be possible so multiple sources hidden away is probably a more accurate description than distributed av as more conventionally done.

The top middle hole in this image is where the electricians thought they would install my up down lights, at the same height as the top of the door which is way too high so i spent half a day re-wiring for the lower position and installing some lights.

Moving the wiring for the lights, why couldn't the electricians have done chases like this instead of the 1ft wide ones i had to repair?

Halogen lights very yellow, within a day of these going up one of the bulbs had done so they'll need replacing with LEDs when the time comes to actually using them

and Finally!!!! the ceiling paint has stuck, no bubbling or peeling of any kind!

Im really strapped for time till my sparky mate comes up and does my CU so i need to go and re do ALL of the sockets in the kitchen to move them to the right height that is my only plan for this week as it is going to take me some time.

I fitted the same up and down lights to the front and back of my house. I replaced the bulbs with cool white LED's and they look amazing. I set them running off timers, they come on at 6pm and go off at 11pm.

As you can see from my handy laser, this is where the bottom of the sockets *should* be, where they were located would have been about 25-30mm above the bench top which wouldnt have been enough space to get a plug in, Well done electricans!!!

This is the back of one of the sockets they'd installed. what i dont understand is they were moaning on saying they couldnt chase the walls and then theyve gone too deep and just stuck a piece of wood in there.

Moving the sockets up, on the right here is a fused spur that they forgot to install for my washing machine.

More movement, again a fused spur, this one ive moved as it was on the wrong side of the unit.

After all this moving things and re-doing most of the wiring i realised that im putting a hob in here, wheres the cable? no cable? they Forgot to install a cable for my hob, so i'll be having to get myself some 4mm cable and running another chase for my hob. what a joke eh?

A bunch of cowboys...

My other comments isn't printable on this forum.

When I've rewired houses, I never rely on drawings, I always got the person to draw socket/ switch location on the walls where they want them, then confirm with them to finalise.

Look at the dust in this room, wonder what is going on.

my gear, at least being safe when flying brick parts and dust is flying about.

chased hole, correct depth and level, ready for the socket to go in with minimal filling.

Got all the sockets in the kitchen relocated and chased out today, ready to be wired up tomorrow, and then a bit tidy and some filling on friday and i'll be good to go for my consumer unit at the weekend.

Ive also tasked my dad to fill the ceiling in the front bedroom ready for final coat of paint. the windows in there will have to wait until after christmas now until i have the money so in the meantime the reveals will be prepped and painted and windows cleaned until then

Ive got 2 carpets going into the rooms next friday to get them tidied up and then i'll be sealing off the doors until the stairs and landing are done.

Today i did a bit more in the kitchen i got all of my sockets installed as per the image below. Only getting 2.5 hours in at the house before work is starting to get to me so this morning i got the socket backs in, i got a coat on the ceiling in the front bedroom, ive also made a start on filling the holes in the av cupboard ready to get that painted.

my plan is to get a bit more done tomorrow it might end up being the 2nd final coat on the bedroom and making a start on filling / sanding in the av cupboard prepping for paint.

Slightly better note, sweet day at work!!!

I've got my mate coming at the weekend to get my hager consumer unit installed and then do a few tests before powering up and make sure the previous sparkys didnt make any more mistakes that i cant see.

I'll take the advice and go with a 6mm cable for the hob, i'll get this at the weekend to be installed, means i need another 45amp switch as well.

Ive installed 6mm cable today, god its thick!! all chased in and ready to have the fronts installed.

Rest of the sockets have been installed and ready to go, the pipes in the image will be lowered before the appliances are installed to bring them below socket level.

Next 4 days will be having all my sockets and switches installed with the consumer unit fitted, im still waiting on my flood lights being despatched so i may end up disconnecting the flood cables and testing everything else until they actually arrive.

Old box out and all the cables chopped off, finished, terminated and fittings installed. not really a lot to take pics of, lights and sockets which im sure you've all seen before.

New unit in hager split load, replaced the 45A fuse in my supply to a 100A!

Now ive got lights in every room im getting my EICR done friday and then im going to be steaming ahead to get as much decorating done as i can.

Got an absolute bargain on ebay, took the chance on some terribly listed and pictured silver series ceiling speakers, inspected while at work. just a bit of grill damage, nothing a quick sand/strip and repaint cant fix.

My dad painting the radiator whilst i was away making a massive difference, using actual radiator enamel helps as it gives a great finish.

Frog tape at work here in the spare room,

Can just about see the sheen on the bottom piece here :)

Final coat of grey in the main room, just need to plumb that radiator in and then gloss and its a finished room.

the two bedrooms i cant afford to get windows for as of yet so they'll be waiting a while till i get some cash funds available.

Electrical test - PASSED - so happy about this considering most of the work was done by myself bar the cable runs and the board i'm pretty happy with this result! Electrician commented on how professional the install was bar the chasing of the cables!!!!

More decorating on the cards, filling, sanding and LOADS of painting and GLOSS :( to do.

Today was a bit of a nightmare to say the least didnt get nearly as much done as i wanted/hoped due to some issues we ran into.

First of all we took off the downstairs radiator as its not level, flushed the system and then started to fit the radiator in the main bedroom, its the big double one that used to be in the living room so should be more than powerful enough for the bedroom!

Lengthening the pipe for the right side.

Freshly glossed door, picture doesn't show it but it looks insanely white in person and such a nice sheen on it

Cleaning the windows as they'll be staying a bit longer than i wanted due to the way bonus works at my place its quiet over christmas so they'll be staying in till i can get some cash going next year.

Cupboard with all the sockets in ready to take some equipment, i don't have much to put in there yet but im hoping that my wife will treat me to some gear for christmas to fill some of the plug space

All LED's and speakers fitted, shelving in place in the cupboard.

One of my remote sockets installed as a bedside socket to take a lamp this will be used with my mood settings of my lights so i can choose a mood that would include either a lamp and main lights and set the brightness levels of the ceiling lights for different scenarios :)

Picture of the app setup for the bedroom, Ultimate lazy gadget this and did cost a lot but its great to use when setup.

Issues-

First issue of the day was the toilet (stack) being blocked so that took up a lot of time getting that sorted!!!

Second issue was the LED's / Dimmers i have, they seem to work fine with 2 LED's installed apart from where i have a Master/ Slave (2Way) lighting setup, i assume this is due to the fact that to power up 2 switches a little more current is needed and this pulls about enough to have the LED's flashing very dimly when switched off, so my plan is to install an extra light onto the landing lights into the loft so that when switched on i will have light up there and also resolving my flicker problem.
The other 2 LED's i have is in my living room where i have a bank of 8 and then 2, 2 which will be over my dining table, im still trying to see what i can do about this one i'll probably end up with a RESLOADE which is basically a big resistor which simulates a 10w load on the circuit which should resolve my flicker problem.

So after all this im back at home writing this and have work for the next 6 days and i have a family asking me to help with some door fitting so i'll not get anything much done at the house till next saturday.
