Cars, do you ever get bored?

I have had my car for 7 years now. I would be dissapointed if its eventual replacement does not have similar longevity.

:/ I think you'd be setting yourself up for (another) fall if you chopped in your car for something else. Something tells me you'll have that car until it rusts away from under you :p

I got my first evo in 2003. I replace it 2 years later with a golf.
Then the bug bit again and I got another.
I got bored/fed up with the fuel bills so flogged it for an S2000.
Had the S2000 for about 9 months (hated it) and got another evo. Had it 4 years now and I think I'll only swap it now for another evo or a big power German barge (then get another evo ;) )

Bored as **** with mine :(
2L Ibiza Sport, really want a mazda 6 mps, finding one closeish with the corerct tax band and decent condition is proving somewhat difficult lol

I convince myself that I am ready for a different motor and once I have my heart set on something, it is almost impossible for me to get it out of my mind. I'll then use confirmation bias techniques to persuade myself that this will be the best car I could ever possibly buy and will keep it a long period of time.

There's so much choice out there, it'd be a shame not to experience different makes and models so long as it's financial viable to do so, or at least a degree you're comfortable with.

I've got so many cars I want, but in reality they will bankrupt me, and I always pussy out of getting them.

I currently have a Clio 182, so it's a nice allrounder, and some would say you cannot beat it.

But here's my shortlist:

MX-5 (mk1),
M3 (of course),
S15,
S14,
335i,
350z,
Scooby

At some point I really am going to just man up and get one. The only things really that stop me currently are:

I know the car I have is mechanically sound, so I know I don't have any big bills coming, unless something unexpected goes wrong.
It's a good allrounder, it's decent enough MPG on a run, but fun on a B road drive.

Would have the MX-5 or something else as a second car, but don't have enough drive space :(.

I am absolutely the worst car owner to walk this planet.

I will desire a car; do everything to get it; then see that the grass is greener; jump and get the new car; rinse and repeat.

Saying that, I do not regret any vehicle that I buy - but I do regret losing the ones that I sell on (if it were my choice, i'd have kept every car, but i'd need a big driveway then...).

With most vehicles, it may be the aesthetics, figures, performance, brand, price or public's perception of your car that makes you want it. Sadly each of those are very limited:

Aesthetics - you cannot see it when you drive it.
Figures (MPG etc) - there will always be better and more economical.
Performance - this is circumstantial as even a hatchback can give you a surprise, all dependent on the gearing, conditions, driver and the risks they are willing to take.
Brand - once again, this is a materialistic viewpoint. BMW are a great premium car, but when you've owned a few, you come to accept and expect it. It becomes common to you.
Price - there will always be cheaper vehicles offering more bang for buck, especially as your car and tech ages, and newer models come available.
Public's perception - it is entirely pointless to base a purchase on what people think is cool or not. It could make it more criminally desirable, but also shows that your appreciation of the vehicle is fragile. It is your money, so get what you want, not what your neighbour wants or the kids down the street etc.

All in all though, I do get bored of the vehicle. And I use this term basically under the guise that Fox says it - I am used to the vehicle, it doesn't surprise me or impress me. It simply just delivers.

Yes and no, my daily drivers I've got bored of, the Mondeo TDCi is fairly boring but it's too good at what I use it for & far too reliable to get rid of.

The Capri i'm far from bored of, but I suppose that is helped by the fact I've not driven it for 4 years and when it's done it'll almost be a different car performance wise.

When it's done. I've still got your link sitting in my bookmarks :D

I cant keep a car for more than a few months I always seem to get an offer I cant refuse on owners clubs, last three cars were sold via owners clubs in the last two years plus quite a few more over the years, mostly Honda's

Curiosity is what gets me.

Civic (2 years) to Fiesta ST = wanted something new and quicker
Fiesta ST (1 year) to Astra VXR = wanted something fwd that was stupid fast
Astra VXR (1 year) to ST220 = wanted something bigger but still quick

Had the ST about 8months and don't plan on getting rid for a while. I want RWD next, maybe V8.

Trying to think what my track record was like...

1.0L -> 1.6L -> 1.8L -> 1.8L forced induction -> 3L forced induction -> 3L forced induction

From here, i'd only look towards a bigger diesel engine.

Yea, I'll keep it until it stops feeling like a 'nice car'. Then I'll buy a silver F10 M Sport with black leather and wood trim and see if I can bust the 10 year mark in it :p

Not really. I did in my earlier years when I drove low powered hatchbacks. When I got my 205 GTi in 2005 I kept it for 5 years an only sold it due to doing many more miles. I got my 330D straight after and still have it now and plan on keeping it for a few years to come. I think I've chosen well in the last ten years or so and even now I get into my car and think how much I enjoy just being in it and driving it (although to most people I'm sure I just drive an old Beemer).

That's not to say I don't still look at other cars and wish I had one but I still think of my car as being 'special' and I'm more than happy with it.

Ive only ever owned 2 cars my corsa which was run into the ground and now my civic which Ive had for 4.5 years and still enjoy driving.

I always get the feeling that the grass is greener and I think I could change, but really why would I when I still enjoy my car and it gives me no trouble, once my civic hits about 100k or starts giving me trouble it will go, not till then. Granted im thinking M3/M5 for next car so thatll be something of a step up :)

Had my Primera coming up to 6 years now. Still puts a smile on my face and is economical and practical. Currently having a suspension refresh. I felt like chopping it in for a dagadag when I purchased my Celica GT-Four but it returns 36 MPG on the work commute while still having a decent punch and is very exclusive.

Problem is that 90's jap magic that was going around back then has all but disappeared so I do not have anything I would like to replace it with.

Fed up not bored!

Everytime I drive my DC2 it annoys me during day to day driving with those damn polybushes I put on and the lightweight flywheel can be a PITA if I'm not concentrating when driving in traffic.

Then the sun comes out, I hit the roads west of Aberdeen and experience pure driving Nirvana on the best roads I've ever driven, and will ever drive, across the sensational Scottish highlands. I doubt any car will give me what the Teg has, it's unbelievable on tight A and B roads, just so controllable and perfect to be behind the wheel of.

It's been too long since I've had a drive and I really need one whilst the roads are still unfrozen.
