Hi,

Monday I am ordering the last bits and pieces for my build.

I was originally going to be using a EK 4.0 pump, however sold that tonight to a friend for his build, so am thinking of maybe a different pump at a slightly higher price?

I will be Water Cooling the following:

  • Intel i7 3820
  • SLI GTX 680 SC Signature 2GB
  • EK 150mm Res

I have a Slim 240 to go into the roof of my case, think it is a RX/RS 240mm, I need to decide a 360mm radiator to go into the front, but not sure what would be best to keep the cards and chip cool.

YOUR BASKET
1 x XSPC D5 Vario with Front Cover (1/2” barbs) £66.98
1 x EK CoolStream Radiator XT 360 (120.3) £48.98
2 x Mayhems X1 Blood Red Coolant £7.99 (£15.98)
1 x EK UNI Holder 50-70 - Black £3.98
2 x XSPC 7/16" ID [16/11mm] High Flex Hose - Clear [1m Length] £2.99 (£5.98)
Total : £141.91 (includes shipping : FREE).

Or would the EK 4.0 pump be OK and change the cost of the pump for a SR1?

I have a max budget of around £150 + I need another SP120 1450rpm fan!

Opinions please.

Ok, I was just wondering about room for beefy rad overkill :D

Your spec looks fine, assuming you have all the fittings already and you're not bothered about a pump top?
You could save cash with the EK 4.0 if you wanted.. I'd rather have a D5, but either would work well.
I'd also rather have the XT over the SR1 considering the difference in price and the small gap in performance.

Well, in the front of the case, I could fit a Monsta rad with fans, but they get quite expensive! If the spec above looks fine, then I might get that, or may get the EK 4.0 & can get a couple 90 degree fittings to tidy some tubing up. I have everything else already including 26 odd fittings, cpu block, gpu blocks etc.

Thanks for the graphs as well, the price/performance ratio is nice to see, just want to keep those cards nice and cool!

Will a top be required, the pump will be tucked away so won't be visual, but I know tops can help with performance?

I don't think you need to get anything bigger tbh (Yes, I know I have stupidly big rads for no good reason :D).
Sure, you could shave a few degrees off with an XTX/UT60/Monsta etc, but it's not exactly going to be a night and day difference for the extra cost.

A top makes 20% difference according to EK. I guess that could help with restrictive loops running multiple blocks.
Is it necessary? Probably not, though it's nice to be able to screw fittings into a top rather than use the barbs on the front cover I guess...

I can't remember if it's the 4.0 or the 18W DDC that has better head, but less flow than the D5 which could even things up a bit. Either way, you should be fine with whichever you pick.

Now who would have a couple of stupidly huge rads strapped to their case? ;)

Thanks for all the advice, has helped me decide on what to get. If the budget was a little more flexible then I guess a D5 and nice top would be a nice addition, but for now the above with a EK 4.0 will do nicely!

YOUR BASKET

1 x EK DCP 4.0 Pump (12v) £39.98
1 x Corsair SP120 Quiet Series High Pressure Low Noise - Single Pack (CO-9050005-WW) £13.99

I have no idea who would do such a thing  ;)

While it should be perfectly fine, I will say that a big part of me is screaming D5, D5!
Anyone else with greater pump know how wanna chime in here?

4.0 has better head at 4m and a quite decent flow rate of 800lph. I think its hugely underrated as a pump considering it is dirt cheap and requires no top. The D5 sports a 1200lph flow rate with a fair bit less head if i recall.
