So, we are expecting a 'MEGA storm' this evening / tomorrow and I have to drive from Nottingham to Peterborough at 7:30am in the morning.

I have two options, go down the M1 and across the A14 or go towards Grantham and down the A1.

The M1 option is all main roads but there is risk of over turned lorries and big accidents and the Grantham / A1 route has trees.

The M1 route is an extra 30 miles.

Which would you choose?

Box yourself up and post yourself via Royal Mail. You don't have to worry about the over hyped "storm" then, you'll be protected in a box with bubble wrap. Or just drive the way you would normally drive and don't worry.

Why are people panicking about this adverse weather. Jeez take it steady and you'll be fine. It's like people have never driven in rain or gusty wind before. Honestly it does my head in.
I got stuck behind people doing 20mph on a 50mph road the other day because of the bad rain the other day. Drove me nuts. Yes slow down but slow down to a sensible speed like 35mph. I was doing that speed after the person pulled off and it was totally fine.

Its maddening that people can't seem to drive to the conditions either too fast or too slow but I'd rather people drove to slowly than as I see way to often - bombing it past at 85mph with little more than 20-30 feet visibility :(

Where did I mention I was panicking? I'm simply asking which route you would take.

I'm more than confident driving in any weather. Having drove on the A38 > M1 home from work for 4 years I know that a bit of rain / wind means other people are incapable of driving and therefore cause accidents.

I'm asking which route to take to avoid such problems because I have an appointment and need to be there in time.

I'm not saying you're panicking. I'm just saying that people over react with these things. Take your normal route unless you think it will be busy then find another.
Most people should be driving safely. Of course there will be idiots who think they are indestructible no matter which route you take.

i got a drive from peterborough to marlborough (wilts) and i am doing nothing different

probably go to oxford and down to marlborough or A1, A421, M1, M25, M4

I guess he's already here !!

Depending where in Nottingham he actually if he was next to the M1 then I'd head south to J24 (Kegworth) and go over Melton Mowbray, Oakham and join A1 south just before Stamford.

That's the route we use to go to liverpool except we carry on over the M1 onto the A50 to Stoke.

We consider this a STRICTLY No KerfaddleArse route so if your going to kerfaddle along then stay on the motorway where you can be easily passed and therefore not a nuisance !
