On Saturday (October 26) the singer's reps officially confirmed that Lou Reed is not dead. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said.

It always bothers me to see people writing ‘RIP’ when a person dies. It just feels so insincere and like a cop-out. To me, ‘RIP’ is the microwave dinner of posthumous honours.

I know embarrassingly little of his music. Shame it took this to make me go and look it all up.
