About to set off into the extreme weather down here in the South West, right in the heart of the 'Amber' weather warning zone. Any tips for driving in blazing sunshine on largely dry roads?

It's nearly November, you need your winter tyres.

Snow chains, bro

Supposed to be at its worst here in Brighton at 8am....it is a bright sunny day!

That's not true, the forecast has consistently had Brighton's peak between 3 and 6am. The highest gust observed at Shoreham was 67 mph during the 6am hour, the following hour had a lower peak gust of 60 mph.

What a disappointment that was! It got a little bit windy last night but I've woken up to blazing sunshine and not a single sign of destruction out the window!

Make sure your sun visor is working.

Had to dodge a runaway wheelie bin on the way to work and there's a couple of trees down, but nothing too bad thankfully. Did see a young chap on a YBR125 get blown straight over whilst sat at lights. He said he was alright but probably quite a few scratches on the bike.

On the positive side all the rubbish dumped at the end of my road by ******, that the council have not bothered to clear for the past year, is now spread over a two mile area.

Tubes were a bit screwed up this morning, anything that goes outside is severely delayed, suspended in outdoor areas.

Jubilee line ended up being entirely blocked back from Wembley park as far as London Bridge and probably further than that by the end. Had to take the Circle, heaven forbid!

You might as well work from home if you are coming into London:

South West Trains have advised people not to travel on Monday with most services not running until at least 10:00 GMT to allow Network Rail to check lines. A reduced timetable will be in operation, with some trains limited to speeds of 50mph

East Coast will operate a revised emergency timetable on Monday, with trains stopping at Peterborough until 10:00 GMT, and limited to speeds of 50mph afterwards

First Great Western and Virgin West Coast main line are also running an amended service until 10:00 GMT and 09:00 GMT respectively. First Great Western has suspended the service between Guildford and Gatwick Airport.

Virgin West Coast said journey times may be extended by up to 70 minutes
First Capital Connect and C2C said services are unlikely to begin until 09:00 GMT. Greater Anglia, Southern, Stansted Express and Gatwick Express have also said services will not run until after 09:00 GMT

London Overground will not run a service on Monday before 09:00 GMT, while Southeastern said services might not start until 09:00 or 10:00 GMT, and then with an amended timetable

You want tips, look in your driving handbook son, it's in your glove compartment. :p

Everything is fine here in my little town. 3 branches noticed on the road, that's all. No worse than any other windier than average day..

I wasted 8 zip-ties on my garden swing...
