Hi all.

Now, please don't think I'm a noob OCer here lmao..but something is really baffling me today. I got my new I7 3770K and Windows 8.1 in the post today, I've just finished installing everything and just jumped on some small overclocking. First things first ramped up to 4.2Ghz @ a known good ballpark figure of 1.2v. No problems booting, no problems running prime95 etc but when I look at my monitoring programs, it looks as if my CPU is maxing out at 3.5Ghz. Now as you can see by CPUz, my multi is set to 42 although it says x35 and in system tray its showing the chip at 4.2Ghz yet CPUz and RealTemp seems to suggest other.

Also, my chip doesnt seem to be throttling right when I'm idle. It drops to 3Ghz looking at CPUz and RealTemp but thats it. Shouldnt it drop to 1.6Ghz or something??

take a peek at this screeny. Please help, its doing my nut in. The temps on my cores would suggest im running 4.2Ghz as when im at stock I hover around the 30oC mark

how are you setting the cpu voltage? if a fixed amount it won't throttle at idle, you first have to set cpu v to normal this unlocks dvid then you can add a touch of dvid voltage, then cpu throttles

you get a default cpu v,then llc adds some voltage and dvid adds a touch more to the cpu

for 4.2ghz just set cpu v to normal and leave dvid alone for now

as for it not reading your cpu speed it could be out of dat software because of win8.1,cpu-z will give you correct speeds

Wazza. Ive always entered a number manually for my CPU Vcore and it has always throttled in the past. I took out my 3570K today, entered Vcore manually for that one and it was throttling just fine.

Anyway, what i dont understand is, in bios it tells me my CPU clock is 4.2 yet when I stress test, it never goes higher than 3.5Ghz

And I'm now using latest CPUZ 1.67 version and its still the same. Just tried your method anyway and it still doesn't show it throttling or going above 3.5Ghz

it wont throttle in voltage though, maybe cpu speed but not voltage

if its not going to the full oc try reflashing the same bios again as sometimes it sticks in applying the settings

it should 100% throttle in speed/volts when set to normal cpu v

still the same GGRRRRRRRR

actually its now throttling down to 1.6Ghz, but when I prime95 or IntelBurn it still says 100% cpu load @3.5Ghz even though I'm set to 4.2 in Bios WFT!!!

can either be not enough cpu v or stuck bios and a reflash cures it,atleast for me

left all turbo ratio's on auto and just cpu multi at 42?

I turn turbo off.

IVE GOT IT. I have a samsung EVO 250gb, there is an option to use Samsung Performance mode with Samsung Magician, that changes the power mode to high performance. I just turned that to balanced and its now hitting my proper clocks and throttling woo hoo

edit....NO I DON'T PLS help guys.

TonyTURBO you have to leave TURBO on :p

Without turbo on, it wont go to the max multi. I tested this and even though my multi is set to 45 with turbo OFF it only goes to 3900mhz in Prime 95. Turn turbo on and it will hit 4500mhz.

what bios version are you using? latest one off giga's site? id do that first if you havn't already then try

if it still does it try a touch more cpu v

also try all turbo's and cpu multi set to 42x

but unticking "Disable Turbo" in RealTemp settings has sorted it lol...thank god. overlooked that one silly option. Now I can start reducing my voltage to find the sweet spot once I hit 4.6Ghz
