lol no, AMD had to release a new gen eventually anyway, shame it came 3 months too late.
You are constantly using gapingly flawed logic.
Both sides eventually release new gen like they have done since there existence.
The being late in this case and the end results of NVs actions contradict your claims of effect and why.
A simple example when the 7990 came out late NV didn't drop the prices of the titan/690 cards and even after the huge price drop of the 7990 because its not seen as a threat even at the cheaper price, so no just having a competing card on the market does not automatically mean better prices because that was a real case of too little to late, AMD set the price of the 7990 at where it is now on release that may of been another matter.
The 7970 beat the 580, no price drop on the 580.
The 7xxx priced was dropped plus free games and again no price drop from NV on the 6xx for a long time and again the same performance segment.
All of the above AMD card were initially priced equal or higher in there competing class-= no price drop from NV.
AMDs latest card is seen as a threat because of performance and the initial price but if they priced it at the same price as the original 780 price then you would not have seen a price drop from NV even though NV would not have a monopoly in the segment because lack of a competing card just like the 7990 and 7xxx situation.
So you claiming the price drop came from NV just because AMD released a card in that performance segment and for no other reason is wrong and its far more complex this time around than just AMD having a similar performance card at a much cheaper price, AMD having all the consoles has an influence plus AMD being much more aggressive with marketing and having a competing product that is much cheaper from the get go makes a difference just like the GTX 280 example below and NV is not even waiting for the R9 290 version to be released and priced because that version has/had the potential to be the best value of the lot.
NV has surprised many with this action + free games and i have not seen anything as dramatic in price cuts from NV [bar EOL products] since the GTX280 plus giving money back to people who already bought the card before the price cut and we know why that happened and while NV gets away with milking on prices they know a real potential threat when they see it no matter if the user base can not, but some like to play on words and be absolute and literal because its upto NV what they do and AMD can't force NV do do anything that they are not willing to do and throw feasibility and being realistic out of the window and that goes both ways as both are out to make as much money as possible and they will not give out price drop without damn good reasons and just because they felt like it is not going to be one of them.
And i may be wrong but aren't the 780 cut down Titan chips which are cutdown Tesla, if then is the case then 3 months late is nothing seeing as AMDs 290x is not a cut down chip from arc that has been around from November last year.
I think the prices are just about right now for the top tier single GPU cards, Titan not included. I was playing £399 in 2006.
People should really not be arguing over good price cuts, i made an exception for you because in my opinion some of your comments are way off.
