Anyone know any good places to sell an old rMBP?

I've had it up for a while on the Members Market here and on Gumtree and I've had not even a single bit of interest.

I'm not gonna sell on eBay as it's too risky especially with PayPal and I don't want to sell at places like CEX/Music Magpie where they give you 50p for them.

There must be somewhere!

P.S. Mods if I can't post this asking where is best to sell, please remove this thread, I'm not trying to sell on this thread, but to find the best place to sell.

Cheers,

stay well clear of AV Forums

most forum members want you to send the item before payment

OP, not sure if it's the same one, but were you selling the 15" for around £2,000. I looked at it, and thought it was way over priced against the new range. May have missed something obvious, so apologies if I have.

It was around that price with 3 years of applecare. £225 cheaper without the 3 years of applecare added on. Apple sells same model as a refurb for £2499, without the applecare, as well as having seen similar units going for around the same if not more, so I thought it was reasonably priced. It was the top BTO specced model at the time.

EDIT: The FS/Trade section on AV forums has requirement, bah humbug.

I sold mine on Gumtree. Theres a world of difference selling something for 2 grand though, its quite a specialised bit of kit really for that money, people don't usually need the size of SSD you have which is really what bumps the cost up.

If you dropped it to £1500 i think you would have people snapping your hand off.

That's the problem with the specced model, the people who would normally buy this top end kit will normally buy it new. The people who buy it secondhand normally want the entry level models and maybe a few extras at most.

When my 24 price drop is available, I think I'll drop it a fair bit, guess I'm gonna have to take a bigger hit than expected.

Thanks for the advice guys.

ah yeah that's a shame as it's a brilliant laptop

You could try and sell it on Amazon especially as it has the applecare, or you could try ebay as you don't have to sell if it goes for a silly low price (just have to fork out the fees).

In hindsight, you should have sold it before the new models came out, but as mentioned above, the real high end systems do take more of a hit. Same with cars, the top spec'd models always loose the most :(

This only applies if you're new, haven't sold anything previously, are selling high value stuff etc, and even then not every member will ask you to do this. Once you have some iTrader feedback on there it's all good and the amount of stuff being shifted is ridiculous - I've done a few 'wanted's on there and always got what I was after.

Slightly naughty suggestion...but advertise on eBay and list as collection only, then when someone messages you asking if they can pay in cash...? You get the idea for the rest.

Probably shouldn't condone this but that's how my last machine sold. This said, I ensured that the machine was in perfect condition (essentially near-new) and would not have sold the machine to anybody who wasn't happy with it. I'd rather keep to my word and have a happy new owner.

I'd rather stay away from eBay, it has caused me nothing but problems in the past.

The only positive for it, is that it has the biggest market of any 'For Sale' site.

The last point was the main reason for my suggestion, but I know what you mean (and agree)! All I can suggest is staying away from HUKD, bunch of cheapskates.

Tell me about it, I told them I wouldn't even look at offers under £1800 and they kept offering me £500 and called me stupid for not taking it lol.

I know Ebay can be a pain, but put it on ebay as a 30 day classified, with a 'best offer' option. I'd be surprised if someone didn't offer to come and collect to pay cash outside of Ebay to avoid selling fees.

Most 'large' things I sell on there hardly every end with auction, I always end up selling early.

I've sold a Mac Pro on ebay for well over £3000.

It's all about restricting the audience you advertise to, through the "buyers requirements" criteria.

Regarding AVForums.. you only have to send the item before you're paid, if you're new :)

I'm gonna try ebay I guess, how do I change buyers requirements?

EDIT: Can't even list it as the value is to high, Apparently I can only list upto a max of £350.... Looks like I'm stuck with a £1800 paperweight..

i tried to sell my iMac and had no luck anywhere. I listed it on Gumtree and it sold within three days.

As long as you list it as collection only rather than sending it you should be ok.
