You sure Gibbo? from the grape vine; new 280s are supposed to get trueaudio at some point as 270.....but I didn't think it would be this soon :D

XTL core does not have True Audio. Confirmed by AMD. Current R280X uses XT2 core which has better OC potential, so the current core is actually better.

XTL gives same out the box performance, cost a little less to manufacturer, in short 99% of users notice no difference, AMD make a bit more profit. :)

I saw a post in here this morning describing how the R9 280X is getting a revamp, smaller DIE, more efficient...

It looks to me like a smaller Hawaii, which would make perfect sense, a 7970 level Hawaii GPU would come in at about 250mm^2~ vs 360mm^2 of the current 7970 re-badged R9 280X, much smaller DIE, much more profit, and if it is Hawaii or a an overhaul i would think they would add True Audio to it.

I saw something similar; that's why I was curious. Do we know if this is true and when its happening?

No idea, i certainly wouldn't count on any rumour being true, but they make sense to me, AMD have the technology in Hawaii to DIE shrink the R9 280X significantly, so why wouldn't they? and if it is a Hawaii under another name why wouldn't it have TrueAudio?
