Is anyone else getting this lately?

Despite there being someone in when packages are to be delivered, the postie keeps red-carding us without ringing the doorbell.

I've complained 3 times now about this and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I reckon perhaps they just aren't bothering to bring the items out with them and probably have them filled out ready?

Quite the opposite, in fact my local postie knows I work well into the early hours, so often tries to deliver my parcels near the end of his shift, which is rewarded with regular cuppas and a present at xmas time :)

Do what I did. Write a formal letter of complaint, include an invoice for your time that you've had to waste arranging re-deliveries and/or costs for going to collect the item from the depot.

Address it to:

FAO: Moya Greene
Royal Mail Group Ltd
100 Victoria Embankment
London
EC4Y 0HQ

Send it 1st class recorded.

I did, got a reply 2 weeks later, didn't pay the invoice however they took the complaint seriously and it's not happened since, incidentally we have a new postie since the reply . . . . .

That happened to me when i was at uni..

I was waiting in for it (as it was pre-1PM delivery and i was leaving for home at 12.30PM, needed to get to a family meal)..

Heard no knock, checked the door at 20 past, A red card there, Time on it 20 ******* past..

Actually chased the postie but his van was out of sight before i could get inot my car..

Proper annoyed me..

Not happened to me since though..

We also used to have this and complained - hasn't occurred since and that was years ago.

You'll find you were carded (as you said) because they didn't have the parcel out with them in the first place (to heavy maybe, they'd rather you collected it).

Whenever a company does this (DPD, etc) it's often the same case as above but they card you so they can tell their customer (example OCUK) that they kept to their SLAs but the customer was not home......when in reality they didn't have space on the van.

Whenever this occurs I always complain to the delivery company AND the company I bought from. Nothing scares a delivery company more.

Cheers, chaps.

I don't normally do the whole Victor Meldrew act but I just sent a complaint with the previous reference. This is the 4th time recently, and yeah it's a massive pain in the rectum to drive down to the collection depot when I get back from work. It's also annoying when I've paid the extra for 1st class.

Our normal postie is good as gold, but it seems they are doing deliveries in drips and drabs with a few different people these days. I'm guessing they are employing agency workers who don't give a damn.

Amtrak did it to me once... I was even stood in the hallway when it happened.

He was surprised when the door opened so fast and went and got the parcel from the back of the van... I was perplexed...

.

Complain to whoever you bought the item too also. RM will be scared if they are not keeping to their SLAs and their customers are finding out.

This really grinds my gears, it happens a lot to me. Sometimes they will knock on the door, post the note and within 20 seconds they have gone.

The worst part is my sorting office opening hours is a joke.

If this is what actually happened it would be classed as "willful delay" and the Postie who did it could get into big trouble.

However, from the amount of deaf morons who claim to have been in despite me ringing (if their doorbell even works) and knocking twice, I have to stress the "if".

Yodel delivery at 10:35AM this morning which was received. As this delivery was being taken, a red card was found in the letterbox with a time of 10:30AM.

My doorbell definitely works and is bloody noisy...

To be honest I never had any problems until they closed the local sorting office. Everything turned to **** after that happened.

Oddly enough just had a message from my gf today. She's sat working in the study which is next to the front door and over looks the drive. Her desk is at the window looking out over the drive. Sees the postman approach. Hears the letter box. Goes to check and there's no mail just a lovely little red card.
Definitely no knock at the door and he didn't have a parcel in his hand.
Her car is on the drive so showing that we're likely to be in.

Get her to make a complaint like I have. I'm also going to let the companies that I'm buying from know as well like Vanilla suggests. :)

If you think a postie not delivering is annoying (yes it is I agree with you) then it's ten times worse when you ring the door bell (to be told it doesn't work), to hammer on the door (and cos they have music blaring or are out the back) they don't hear you knock, to fill in a 739 card (the official name for the Red card) in the ****ing rain for them to turn up and say "oh sorry I never heard you".

In your head you're screaming "well get your doorbell ****** fixed you moron, stop playing your music so loud so don't complain if we red card you"

Happens a dozen times a day :D

This ^ Started my job as a postie in September and this probably happens for about 50% of the parcels I have to deliver.

We do NOT enjoy filling out the red cards people, it's actually considerably easier for us to give you your items as it takes less time.

I've seen the red card of doom get put through my letterbox whilst I was standing by the door. Before I realised what it was the postie was away!

I get red cards occasionally but my normal postie is usually pretty good.

In fact I did have a case the other week where he was getting another load from his van for the next part of his round and he spotted me coming back from the shops. Told me he'd just carded me but if I held on a second he'd grab the packages out the back of the van so I wouldn't have to get them redelivered.
