Am I the only one who finds Halloween pointless as anything?! Stupid stupid "holiday" that seems to have people on this way (mainly expats I have to say and led by Americans) throwing big parties and stuff.

I only got back home last night from London and I'm shattered yet I have to go make nice and "celebrate" at some crap party?! Celebrate what!? Diabetes? Greed?

HUMBUG. Wrong holiday... HUMPUMPKIN

Sigh. It's Pagan and it has a lot of deep and very interesting history. Don't be put off by the Yanks, do some research on Samhain.

I dislike Halloween, especially the dressing up party thing.

I do however join in with the neighbourhood because the kids love it, pumpkins and giving them diabetes etc. I'm not a total grouch.

The best part is when they trick or treat, you say trick, and they just stand there holding their hands out.

Kids these days don't even know what it means.

I'd be fine with it, if the meaning was actually referenced or the reason why 99% of people do something for it and not just getting young kids demanding people give them sweets.

Fantastic idea by the americans. Give lots of children diabetes and watch as they lose limbs, fall into the odd coma and potentially die.

I also like how kids run across the road dressed in black in the dark in quiet housing estates...

A field day of child related death.

We have to stop the population from growing somehow dont we...

It's not just Halloween, I hate all the major celebrations/holidays now that they have become almost entirely surrounded by the commercial aspects of the modern world. The true meanings are lost under the weight of sweet foods and the unnecessary purchasing of tat because the high street says we should.

Subliminal indoctrination.. Hilter was right after all

Lol that has hit the nail on the head for me.

This is exactly the problem, so the OP does carry some weight. All these pagan festivals have become commercialised and no-one knows why they're celebrating them.

Saves on costumes though... fat amputee kids are pretty scary.

Had a discussion about this with colleagues the other day. Halloween has majorly went down hill; even the kids dont seem to be into it as much these days, at least around my way. Probably parents too scared to let them wander the streets and walk into strangers houses.

As for 'adults', none of my mates go out clubbing or partying dressed up...except female friends and my girlfriend! Think girls just enjoy dressing up in overly slutty outfits for the night.

I didnt realise eating sweets one day of the year could be so harmful.

Thank you so much for bringing to my attention that there will be a load of students dressed up and inebriated tonight :D
