Hi all, new member-first post-total noob?- so go easy.
I need to replace my sons laptop for xmas as his screen has broken.
Current laptop is a
emachines e442, AMD V140, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250, 2GB DDR Mem, 15.6".
tbh it handles everything he does pretty well - mainly youtube, minecraft, terraria etc...
I would like something better for under £400 if at all possible, with a similar size screen.

The added bonus is I get to replace the broken screen and keep the old laptop as screens are about £40 ish.

All suggestions are welcome.

I have tried to convince him to get a cheap gaming PC but he likes the portability of the laptop - he even brings it along when camping.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I wouldve thought any laptop costing £400 would play minecraft more than well? I dont play it myself, so dont take it as gospel, but anything around that price should be fine :)

This. With Optifine this also gives a nice boost on lower end laptops. Hunt around for a laptop with an AMD APU, I found that runs Minecraft best. The Intel HD 4000 works as well but it doesn't seem to feel as smooth as my older laptop's 6620G.

Thanks for replies...
I am still trying to talk him into getting a pc only now he's mentioned a PS4.

I would like the new laptop (if he goes that way) to be able to play some recent games like cod etc as an intro into PC gaming.
He told me yesterday that he is able to play garrys mod on his current laptop without problems.

Garry's Mod is pretty light though :p.

I had a quick look on the purple shirt/idian cuisine online store and the LENOVO G505s looks pretty good for the price. The AMD A8-4500M + 7640G should handle quite a few games or med/low.
