*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

I don't understand why people are crying over this MP3 business, I've heard people saying they're going to cancel their preorder because of it lol.

It'll probably be added at some point. Besides is everyone binning their PS3 after their shiney new PS4 arrives? If so send it my way :D.

Cause it's gay.... Its 2013 ffs

To be fair though, Most modern TVs play MP3 without the need for the added device. Then there's phones too which hook up to most systems easily.

It is a shame its lacking, but to be fair your "it's 2013" quote is right on the money.

Yes it is, And there are like a billion alternatives to playing mp3 on your console.

Not really, they are just recommending you to ethernet your PS4 to ensure fast speeds I'd imagine. As long as you have fast internet and a decent router you will be fine.

Same as most PVR's that stream around a network most require it to be hard wired but then any wifi DLNA device can stream from it.

I dont see it being much of an issue in home, as long as other items are not streaming.

Yea but for ps3 games like gt5 you could put your mp3 play list onto the ps3 hdd and play tje tracks in game and when not in game for entertainment like...

i loved custom mp3 tracks especially for gt5 endurance races it made them just about bearable :D
come on lets not kid ourselves here but the reason sony has done this is to sell us music unlimited simples:eek:

few years ago before dlna enabled smart tv sets, this might have been a big issue, but in 2013, where my Samsung with plex media server does pretty much all my media playback and can accept USB drives and sticks of any size to replay pretty much any media. throw at it, a games console that well, erm plays games at my tv sets max resolution at 60fps is IMO more important then a half baked dlna player like the ps3 had.

the MP3 exclusions however are puzzling..

i maybe in a small % of what misses custom soundtracks but it was a nice feature to have in some games gt5 being a good example. this however is only magnifed by booting gta 5 and having misteeq blaring out the radio;)

I think you've misunderstood my post I don't care about the lack of CD play back or MP3s or even media streaming. Its a console with the priority of gaming not a media center.

Agreed. Problem is, the PS3 provided these features in an age where your standard TV back in 2006 was just starting to have features like 1080p, now in 2013 any decent TV you buy has network support with DLNA, media playback and USB support.

I see no reason whatsoever to have DLNA on a games console. I can't remember the last time I used the blu ray drive on my laptop, the CD player in my car, the blu ray player or CD player on my PS3 other then to install or run a game, and I haven't used a DVD in years.

i can say, 100% of my media is played digitally and none of this on a PS3. Plex Media server on my laptop, left on, turn the TV on, using Samsung Plex Media player to connect to my media server on my laptop and I can play ALL my media and also view all my pictures..

You can get a £40 DLNA box to do all of this as well... and it'll do a better job.

the only area I see an issue is the MP3 custom soundtracks, and I bet developers work out ways around this. I'd also say, Sony will add this at a later date.

for now, I want a games console, no, actually I want a machine that plays games at 1080p on my 42" TV where I can then stream to another screen for remote play if the TV is in use. PS4 fits the bill perfectly for that it seems.

Seriously, DLNA missing is not an issue IMO.

its because the PS3 had this feature, but now the PS4 doesn't and its seen as a step backwards. I don't see it that way. I see it as an extra that 'could' be added but I'd prefer sony to concentrate their efforts on getting games to the system...

Make of this what you will about the possibly temporary lack of MP3/DLNA.
Means nothing IMO, though the @yosp tweet where he says hes spoken to the PS4 dev team is at least some progress. Its an incidental issue reflecting on my PS4 preorder, but its not a bad way to see how Sony respond to this...

ps3ud0
