I think you've misunderstood my post I don't care about the lack of CD play back or MP3s or even media streaming. Its a console with the priority of gaming not a media center.
Agreed. Problem is, the PS3 provided these features in an age where your standard TV back in 2006 was just starting to have features like 1080p, now in 2013 any decent TV you buy has network support with DLNA, media playback and USB support.
I see no reason whatsoever to have DLNA on a games console. I can't remember the last time I used the blu ray drive on my laptop, the CD player in my car, the blu ray player or CD player on my PS3 other then to install or run a game, and I haven't used a DVD in years.
i can say, 100% of my media is played digitally and none of this on a PS3. Plex Media server on my laptop, left on, turn the TV on, using Samsung Plex Media player to connect to my media server on my laptop and I can play ALL my media and also view all my pictures..
You can get a £40 DLNA box to do all of this as well... and it'll do a better job.
the only area I see an issue is the MP3 custom soundtracks, and I bet developers work out ways around this. I'd also say, Sony will add this at a later date.
for now, I want a games console, no, actually I want a machine that plays games at 1080p on my 42" TV where I can then stream to another screen for remote play if the TV is in use. PS4 fits the bill perfectly for that it seems.
Seriously, DLNA missing is not an issue IMO.
its because the PS3 had this feature, but now the PS4 doesn't and its seen as a step backwards. I don't see it that way. I see it as an extra that 'could' be added but I'd prefer sony to concentrate their efforts on getting games to the system...
