I bought a Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 motherboard the other day witch came free with a Prolimatech Panther Cooler

When trying to install this cooler it was impossible screws went in fine but couldnt screw down any more and when I tryed it started rounding off the screws as it was that tight. Yet the cooler was wobbling on top off the cpu barelely being held.

I checked online and apparently this board only supports 1156 and 1155 cpu sockets.

So why the hell was it sold free with a Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 with a 1150 socket !?

Yea bought from overclockers.

If its the same mounting then maybe the screws are faulty. There's no way that this cooler will fit on unless the screws were shorter or the springs were longer.

Are you using the backplate correctly?

Looking at the instructions above would suggest the backplate has raised things(sorry can't think of the term for them) for the screws go into which come through the motherboard mounting holes, are you definitely attempting to attach it in the same way the diagrams show?

Yep that's exactly how I done it. I even tryed it upside down after just to see if it would work like that but still no. The screws are just too long and I screw them in as far as they can then they start to round off yet the cooler is very loose can just wobble it with a touch of a finger.

Maybe I just got the wrong size screws with mine ? Otherwise I'm not sure.

They should look exactly like this..

If they're longer, then yes you possibly got the wrong screws(mistake happen, the manufacturer would likely send you new ones free of charge if you contacted them about it), else you're possibly doing something incorrectly(and i'd suggest uploading a few images so we can see the issue you're describing, if possible).

Yea they are the screws I have. I've done everything the way the instructions say and also multiple other things that the instructions do not say to try and make this cooler fit. I've had to just stick on the stock CPU for now until I can find an answer or get a replacement.

Yea they have springs on them. When i fully screw them down the springs do not touch the motherboard though.

The springs aren't supposed to touch the motherboard! They're supposed to be pressing down on the mounting bracket. You should have the spring fitted in place on the screw, then place the screw through the hole in the mounting bracket. (are you fitting the springs under the bracket in error?)

Just by looking at the picture of the bits above it looks simple enough,

• Screw the 1156 bracket arms on to the cooler with the four screws

• Put a pea sized blob of paste onto the CPU surface.

• Using the four spring loaded screws, screw the cooler to the backplate.

Edit..in fact there is a installation tab - http://www.prolimatech.com/en/products/detail.asp?id=1061&subid=1067#showtab

It is simple. Just it doesn't fit. Sorry I meant the springs wernt touching the bracket. I have the brackets attached and put the screw through the bracket hole then into the bracket that sits underneath the motherboard.

The instructions are easy to follow just there is some sort of problem which seems most likely to be size of screw/spring or it just not being compaitable with the motherboard
