Cant make my mind up on which one of these to get, though I'm slightly going towards the BeQuiet.

Akasa Venom 550w Modular £53.99
BeQuiet Pure Power L7 430W £43.99
Corsair Builder Series CX 430w Modular £43.99
Antec Neo Eco C 450w £49.99

Don't worry about what it's going to power that's not the issue the issue is which one to buy.

Any help would be appreciated
 
Out of the four you posted i would go for the Antec Neo Eco C 450. It's a Seasonic built unit with 408w on the 12v rails.

Next would be the Akasa Venom. It's a Andyson built unit with 540w on the 12v rails and is modular, which is a big plus for the price.

I wouldn't touch the other two. The BeQuiet is a FSP unit with only 360w on the 12v rails. The Corsair CX series is nothing more than a cheap CWT unit with cheap internals. Depending on which version it is, it could have 336w or 384w on the 12v rails.
 
What's wrong with FSP? 360w on the 12v rail may be adequate or plentiful for the system it's going in(we don't know the details of the system because that has not been shared)..
 
I did say don't worry about what it's going to power because it isn't much.

This is the system so like I said the BeQuiet is adequate enough.

It's a basic pc nothing much going to be done on it, I might even change the motherboard yet to save more money.

Nothing wrong with FSP as a whole. My Zalman is a FSP unit. It's just that the beQuiet is weak on the 12v rails for a 430w psu. For some reason it only has a 4 pin 12v plug as well. Why settle for a fairly weak psu when a better one is only £6 extra?
 
The thing with AMD's APU's is that they really benefit from faster ram so this is not only faster but cheaper. I would have suggested the Corsair XMS3 kit with it's tighter timings but that's out of stock. Use the money saved to go back to your original choice of motherboard. The A55 chipset has no USB3 or Sata 3 but the A75 chipset does.
 
Looking back at the A75 board I couldn't see any benefit for him over the A55 which does have sata3 but no sata6, he won't bothered about USB3.

The differences with sata3 & 6 well he won't see much of it with what he will be using this board for so a saving on the A55 board is the best option.

That ram does seem slightly better and cheaper like you said.

Ps just noticed they also do the kingston ram with the same timing as the corsair.

The Kingston ram would be better with the tighter timings but it's more expensive. I was trying to get some headroom to get the A75 board back in. I certainly noticed the difference going from my old P55 board with sata 2 to Z87 with sata 3.

You could save a tenner by going with a XFX Pro 450w core edition psu (Seasonic build) which would free up some more cash for the A75 board.

The 550W Akasa Venom does the job and it's very quiet, BUT... It only comes with a 1 year warranty which doesn't inspire much confidence. I bought one for my brothers PC and forgot to lookup the warranty first :rolleyes:.
 
ahh yeah sorry my mistake on the sata 3, that saving on the psu does make the A75 a much better option.

Thanks for your help m8 it's much appreciated I'm trying to save him cash but if I (we) can come up with better options for the same price that's a bonus.
 
You have mail by the way. To be honest i did'nt expect the jump in SSD speed from my upgrade. I was from the "you won't notice the difference in real world performance" brigade, but wow was i wrong!! Everything is much snappier and boot times are ridiculously quick.

Have you seen this? A A85 chipset board for £40. Being B-grade it could be a brown box jobbie with nothing else but people have recieved what appear to be brand new boards with all the accessories. There is the chance you could get just the board without even the i/o shield though.

There is another option although the inbuilt graphics are not as strong. How about this with one of these?

I know what you mean about the ssd that's why I have picked one he ain't really bothered anymore with the size of the drive just so a faster ssd is better for him.

Yeah I seen that board m8 I did ask in the support forum if they were getting that board back in stock before actually seeing it in the b-grade section I also asked cheekily could it be checked if there was an i/o shield in but then told support to disregard that because he wanted a new board.

Been looking at AMD mainly because I was trying to keep the price down because a dedicated graphics card isn't needed so never really looked into Intel systems.

Based on the A4 5300 graphics wouldn't that be a better option than that intel system?
 
The graphics in the AMD is stronger than the Intel but if it's only for email, web browsing etc the Intel would be more than enough. The Intel has a stronger cpu side.

I did get it. Like the way you said further up the page "the lad only has a budget of £380" yet in the email you said he was 66. :D I presumed it was for a youngster. :D
 
Yeah m8 I call every gent a lad no matter what age, he is 66 no youngster.

Though he being an ex drill sergeant he still thinks he's young in mind anyway.

He's on is way round now actually leaving the money for his goods and here is the end product.

Changed the case as well which saved £8 and with free shipping we have saved him £28.
