my new R9 280X just arrived today to replace my aging 5770, so hoping to seem a bit of improvement in my games.

any free stress testing programs out there I could use to give it a work over to see how it's performing? used to have a copy 3d mark (numbered something or other) but can't find the license for it now and have since deleted it

and scored 6456 in firestrike.

currently only running my i5 750 at stock, given that fact anyone know are these the sort of scores to expect?

Use GPU-Z/Afterburner and/or tell us which card it is :)

I only ask because I just matched clocks with a random 280X (1050/1500) and scored 1866 at the same settings.

Grab the latest drivers here and use driver fusion to clear the old ones first.

sorry just edit my previous post to show the clocks, and it's this card

currently running latest drivers. but i'll give fusion a blast to make sure all the old drivers are gone

cheers

Good to see some results with socket 1156. I am still running an i5 760 and thinking about a 280x as well.

Overclocking your i5 750 will boost your scores a bit.

Don't use Fusion unless you want to reinstall your drivers again!

ah ok, maybe run it anyway to make sure all the previous drivers were completely gone. and re-install

have had the i5 at about 3.8 stable but never really saw a reason to keep it at that as it's always done what I needed at stock anyway.

might push it back up to 3.2/3.4 and see how I get on. but just ran bf3 campaign with ultra settings and never flinched from 60fps. so certainly not going to complain! my poor old 5770 was running it at low to med and struggled for about half that fps and sometimes less!
didn't realise how good bf3 looked! :p

temps are pretty sweet on the card too. 63/64 is the highest it's reached in any of the tests I ran, which I thinks is pretty damn impressive

anyone tell me what is a good app to monitor temp, usage, fan speeds etc on screen. is afterburner still ok, or do amd have their own software to do this?

also I've seen mentioned on other threads about changing the power usage to +50% but CCC only lets me up it to +20% (now this may be reference to the R9 290X so ignore me if i'm totally wrong!!)

also why's there no 'official R9 280x owners' thread does the 290x's little brother not warranty one? :p

cheers

Use HWinfo64 with Afterburner if you want a LOT of information and you're happy to set it all up.
Or just use Afterburner :D

Yep, 20% is what you want and there's probably no 'official' thread except for specific models like the Toxic because the 280X is, after all, a 7970 in a new frock :)

Pretty much all i5 750 will do 4ghz with ease and well under the unsafe voltage of 1.45 volts.Had my i5 750 at 4.1 ghz at 1.425 volts since I had it with speedstep on been perfectly fine under a noctua nhd14, most other coolers will easily manage 4ghz on that cpu apart from obviously intel stock coolers.

The i5 750/760's are rock solid at 4ghz and fine at 1.45 volts and less like the Q6600 that came before it rock solid.

ah ok, think i'll just stick with afterburner then! no point confusing my simple mind any further! :p

just thought i'd ask about an 'official' thread as I know it is basically just a 7970 tarted up, thought folks would want to put any queries re heat/problems etc under 1 new banner :)

yea I've had it up close to 4 and over (though could never get it stable), will probably push it up near there again when I can be bothered with all the fluffing about in bios!
