i5 2500k Budget Mobo

I currently have the Asus P8P67 Intel P67 B2 revision motherboard, which is stuck at the original bios due to it not being supported as it's the old B2 revision and not the B3, and as I'm looking to upgrade my GPU to a 7970 I feel like I should really get a new mobo to avoid any potential issues.

I don't think I need anything fancy, just as long as it allows me to overclock my 2500k comfortably.. Looking to keep the price as low as possible.

Any suggestions?

My other specs are/will be:
i5 2500k (to be overclocked)
Asus 7970 Matrix Platinum
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition Power Supply
Windows 7 64bit

Certainly have 4.4Ghz @ 1.25v. Tried 4.6 @ 1.29 as per your sig and temps went thru the roof. Seemed stable but a bit hot for my liking so backed off to 4.4. Very happy with it tho. Hows the 2500K?

Now I have the mobo sorted, can look at OCing over the weekend. Just need to figure out the settings on the GB board.

As I understand it, B-grade boards are ones that have been returned for one reason or another, correct?

And that board Meatloaf posted is just £50, so slightly cheaper than those B-grade ones you posted Idleman. Is there a reason I'd want either of those B-grade ones over the normal one?

Well, both boards are a little more up to date, offer better bios` and OC capabilities. The GB board also offers you the potential to Xfire, should you wish to.

With that Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77, it says in the description "overclocking capabilities of up to 2400 MHz". What does this mean exactly? Bit confused on that one..

And just on that B-grade stuff, what's the risk in buying a B-grade item? Still not 100% what it actually means..

And if I did go for that Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77, would it be fine for any overclocking of my 2500k?

The "overclocking capabilities of up to 2400 MHz" is associated with the ram, as some modules can be OC`ed beyond their rated clock speed.
The "B" grade items come with a 90 day OCUK warranty, then whatever remains on the manufacturers warranty, after that.
Some boards may be missing accessories or original boxing, but this is usually mentioned in the product info.
Always best to ask OCUK for a little more detail before purchasing "B" grade items, just to be on the safe side.
 
Ah I see, thanks. Was thinking it was associated with CPU overclocking and was getting pretty confused.

In terms of what you guys have suggested to me, I see that the P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 is on OCUK for £79.99, which is the same one as the B-grade one you posted Idleman, but is LX2 instead of just LX (presuming a new revision of it?) and is just normal and not B-grade.

(Plus it's the one Meatloaf has so I'm guessing it can't be a bad choice? :) )

So for the £25 more, should I just go ahead and grab that one?

Not to go against your suggestion or anything Idleman, just that I probably would be willing to pay that extra £25 for it to be brand new and also that I'm guessing it's a newer version..
 
The LX is slightly better than the LX2, regardles of whether it`s brand new or not.
Personally, I would go for the Z77X-D3H as it is a great board and a bargain at that price.
But as wazza said earlier, why not wait until you get youe new card and then see if you need a new mobo.

Yeah I will most likely try out the graphics card first, I just wanted to at least be prepared if I did end up having to replace the motherboard.
Are there any negative effects of having an old board/bios other than stability? My PC is completely stable as far as I know, just wondering if performance could be affected due to having old bios drivers?

I bought the mobo on 2nd March 2011..

LX is the better of the two.

It`s hard to say.
