sony plan revised

i wonder if sony knew ms was not allowing mp3s so they did the same but knowing full well they would allow it later, makes ms look real bad if they dont allow it too

That has basically been Sony's marketing strategy since the announcement. Let MS announce their plans, see what doesn't go down well, do the opposite.

It shouldn't have DNLA/MP3/BlueRay support. It's a gaming machine.

yes it should its an entertainment center. The ps3 was more of a bluray and movie player for me than a games machine in the last year and it should have these features because there standard on the ps3 now. Its just taking things away which is only going to harm Sony, Hence the update later on to put them back in.

The 15th is going to be funny. Lots of us UK peeps watching streams of killzone and knack ect :D. It was crazy enough with the GTAV early copies lol.

It's not. It's a games machine, you want an entertainment centre get the XB1.

Games machine priority = PS4
TV box priority = XBone

That does not mean they can't do other things as secondary functions as proven by the TV box playing games too.

I feel like listening to my music, naturally I would go to my Playstation for this instead of the miriad of i-devices, smartphones or god forbid an actual hifi.

Not having DLNA or MP3 play back is something i cant say i will miss, i used to watch videos from the HDD on it, but now my TV does Plec i dont need to and havent for probably a year or two.

MP3 i only eber used once in a blue moon, and again my TV can do it.

Less options on the dash will be better imo.

Could the PS4 theoretically output 2 XBone like graphics on two different screens? For example 1080p is more than double the pixels of 720p, so in a game like cod could the PS4 output 2 x 720Ps?

Its not though its still en entertainment center.. It plays movies..Music..You can browse the web.. you should be able to stream movies and music ect. I used the ps3 for movies/streaming/music more than i did for games. yes its a games machine first and foremost but Its a lot more than that now compared to the days of the sega saturn and dreamcast/ps1 ect.

You could most likely clone the display output to two TV's by using a HDMI splitter

But I very much doubt the PS4 would have enough power to run two copys of the same game to two different screens...(unless they were simple undemanding games )
(As there more then just GPU power needed to run a game (CPU,memory, etc))

Plus the PS4 doesn't even have two display outputs ;)

I remember when me and my mate use to link are playstation ones together by a PS link cable and play red alert against each other on two different screens..:) :) :)

Got mine secured today yayy. Game.co.uk wouldn't let me cancel my xb one order without cancelling both.... so I did and preordered again.... then they told me that it wasnt guaranteed for launch as I was put down the list so I cancelled again.....

Was worried bit I went to a small independent game shop... got the ac creed bundle.... he said he would call me monday if he has any of mega bundles available as thats the one I wanted.

Never shopping game again... service is much better in shops like these. ... was actually cheaper too!

Was just wondering simply if the number of rendered pixels = peak power

If it can render on a single screen at 1080p then surely it could render two screens at 720p?

On my LG 3D TV in split screen mode you can use the Dual Play glasses so both players see a full screen each in MW3 or any split screen game. Problem is that it stretches the half screen which is already running at half resolution of whatever the game natively runs at, so once stretched to full screen looks awful. For example if the games runs natively at 720p, in split screen each player would have 360p each, so as you can imagine stretching 360p looks awful.

But if a game was running natively at 1080p, each player in split screen mode would have 540p each, which when stretched across the full TV wouldn't look anywhere near as bad as the 360p stretched. (This is what is currently possible on 1080p screens)

But given we are getting screens beyond 1080p on the market now with this same dual play tech, would be awesome if we could get 720p for each player and since 720p is about 125% less rendered pixels, was wondering if it was theoretically possible. Two players both seeing what is equivalent to 2 x XBone graphics in games like COD ghost would be awesome.

Guess it doesn't work like that in practice though!

I always saw PS3 and 360 on par when it comes to doing other things like apps and smart TV features, I think it's an own goal for stripping back the new machine, I mean it's not like they've never done it before, and had to spend money on R&D.

Strange decision, seeing that XB1 has it, you would think they want to compete?

So to buck the trend I'm seriously considering cancelling the PS4 preorder as Driveclub has been pulled from launch and there aren't really any games I'm bothered about playing, where the XB1 has Forza, Dead Rising and Ryse.
