Asus 7970 Matrix Plat - Final Check

Think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and grab the Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum 3072MB while it's on sale, and just wanted to do a finally check before I do.

The £240 is pretty much my limit for what I would be willing/able to spend, so is there any other card that would be a better choice, performance out of the box or potential wise, that is same price or under?

My specs are/will be:
Intel Core i5 2500K
Asus P8P67 Intel P67 Mainboard
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB RAM
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II
Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition Power Supply
Windows 7 64bit

May be switching out the motherboard for the Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77, as I hear there could be an issue with my P8P67 as it is the B2 revision and cannot update the bios.

No compatibility issues? Power supply sufficient?

Case is big so size shouldn't be any issue.

Thanks.

Why is this card a better choice?

I've been back and forth between the 7970 and the 280X, but have never really got a solid answer as to why this 280X is better.

From my basic view, the out of the box specs are lower, the review I read on the card says that it's a bit noisy and didn't overclock very far for them, and I believe the 280X is pretty much identical in general to the 7970 in all other aspects.

So what am I missing here? What advantage does this card have over the 7970?

From everything I've seen, The 7970 Matrix is the better card when put next to the R280X, As the R280X is basically a rebadged 7970.

At the moment there are 2 cards that could got my money in 7970/280X area.

280X Toxic or 7970 Matrix Platinum. The rest are for trying to save pennies of your budget.

The Matrix 7970 Platinum is a great card and a bargain for £240.

Your PSU is fine and has 2 x 8 pin connectors that will be required. Only thing to note is it is a big card taking 3 slots so adding another might be tight for future upgrades or sound cards as well.

Mine ran nice and quite and gave great performance.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds good.

Just ordered it, so no more alternative suggestions if you would, I'll start getting paranoid about whether I've made the right decision otherwise :P

Cheers.

Just to manage my expectations a bit, how well can I expect this card to run BF4?

Have tried looking through the big benchmark thread but all I can seem to find is crossfire versions with different 7970 cards.
